I think its a parallel to an 'entitlement issue' that you often see with people that think they are above others, or are somehow held in high regards with those around them.
It reminds me of the Dixie Chicks when radio stations decided not to associate themselves with Natalie Maines opinions of GW. They screamed 'censorship!' when actually it was a choice of the radio station.
Alec Baldwin strikes me as this type as well.
