But we had to turn on the AC in NYC...
Last winter we had the most snow in recorded history. I was ready for some global warming.
Me too...I was without power for 11 days due to an ice storm....
But wouldn't it lead to more snow, given that higher average temps lead to more evaporation?
Higher temps = more rain. Colder tepms = more snow. Nice try though.
So evaporation doesn't increase with temperature?
Most people have a fundamental misunderstanding as to what global warming actually means, especially its impact on micro-climates.
It is much like trying to teach science to a creationist. "The bible says so!" -> "It was very cold last year in my city".
Plenty of snow in Podunkville as well.. think we're at ~20" so far. Only 6 more months of snow to go!!!
Isn't there a song about Podunkville? I don't know, maybe I'm just drunk.
Barber said that's because the ice that grew back in 2008 is thin - not the thicker multi-year ice - so he expects it will disappear quickly.
What? The scientist says that because the snow that grew back over one year isn't the same as that which would accumulate over multiple years, it won't stay around? I'm no environmental scientist, but unless this is a case of flawed reporting, this guy is an idiot. I can certainly understand one year of turnaround is not enough to call a trend (something a lot of environmental scientist would do well to take note of), but the amount of ice currently in the Arctic has nothing to do with how long it will stay.

The consensus of scientists is that this is a bunch of crap!
UN Blowback: More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims
Study: Half of warming due to Sun! Sea Levels Fail to Rise? - Warming Fears in 'Dustbin of History'
POZNAN, Poland - The UN global warming conference currently underway in Poland is about to face a serious challenge from over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe who are criticizing the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore. Set for release this week, a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report features the dissenting voices of over 650 international scientists, many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN. The report has added about 250 scientists (and growing) in 2008 to the over 400 scientists who spoke out in 2007. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.
