W7 has been the most tested OS yet before the final release. It is pretty darn stable. There will always be security leaks for A Holes to exploit. W7 is safer than XP and faster than Vista .. all this being said ... most people really don't need W7. If you are building or buying a new machine - that is another story - get it.
I'm building a new system for my father in law and will probably use XP though .. cuz I have a spare legitimate copy of XP and free is better than what you have to pay for W7.
I've been using the final version for about a month now. I haven't really found anything wrong with it, seems to work like a charm.
Mine is being shipped as we speak. I use Vista and never really had any major problems with it. I'm still up in the air if Im going to install it or not. why fix something that's not broken. and also for the price of only 50 bucks I dont have much to loose either way..
