I'd toss in there too a nice clean rebuild of the OS and I mean by not using the System Restore cd. Stop any uneeded processes or services as well. (Speaking in the language of Windows goodness.) My $0.03....

Putting in more memory in a laptop is easy and probably the best way to upgrade your laptop, the keyboard can be a little trickier depending on the wire connection. Laptops are a little more difficult to work on that a regular PC but not impossible. I installed a new screen on a back up laptop and it was not that difficult. It took a week or so of EBay shopping to get the right price but parts can be had pretty cheap on EBay. Caveat Emptor
