Nearly a decade later and it still seems impossible for a politician to say in public what actually happened. Why is there the need to protect George W Bush from his own words and actions above and beyond the need for Americans to understand their own history?
The idea that Bush would not have invaded Iraq if only someone told him that there were no WMD goes so far beyond spin that it is difficult to understand how anyone who was alive in 2002-2003 could hear that without spitting their coffee all over the room.
The invasion of Iraq was no small thing. It has cost us dearly in blood and treasure. Whatever the truth about the process that got us there happens to be, we should all have that information available to us. Continuing to make excuses for Bush and Cheney, and the rest only prevents the true story, whatever that is, from coming out in all its detail and in its proper perspective.
