One of the things I like about Ron Paul is that he would be saying the exact same thing if Bush had authorized this attack. The man has integrity. I don't agree with him on most things but he is consistent and straightforward and I like that. It is a very rare quality in a politician.
The contrast couldn't be more stark with those conservatives who would use this issue as one more stick to beat the president with. THOSE same people would be demanding that a statue be built to honor Bush if he had been the one doing this. No integrity whatsoever there.
From Salon ... Barack Obama: achieving what Dick Cheney only imagined in his wildest dreams.
UPDATE: What amazes me most whenever I write about this topic is recalling how terribly upset so many Democrats pretended to be when Bush claimed the power merely to detain or even just eavesdrop on American citizens without due process. Remember all that? Yet now, here 19s Obama claiming the power not to detain or eavesdrop on citizens without due process, but to kill them; marvel at how the hardest-core White House loyalists now celebrate this and uncritically accept the same justifying rationale used by Bush/Cheney (this is war! the President says he was a Terrorist!) without even a moment of acknowledgment of the profound inconsistency or the deeply troubling implications of having a President 14 even Barack Obama 14 vested with the power to target U.S. citizens for murder with no due process. Also, during the Bush years, civil libertarians who tried to convince conservatives to oppose that administration 19s radical excesses would often ask things like this: would you be comfortable having Hillary Clinton wield the power to spy on your calls or imprison you with no judicial review or oversight? So for you good progressives out there justifying this, I would ask this: how would the power to assassinate U.S. citizens without due process look to you in the hands of, say, Rick Perry or Michele Bachmann?
This is worse than Tricky Dick would do - or is this just the natural progression of absolute power corrupting?
Ron Paul isnt a horriable person at all but some of his ideas just really bad.
Lets give Iran nukes wooo! Yeah, that be fun to clean up in 10-15 years. Maybe we could have another Obama in office attempting to fix what is broke people could all blame though.
Funny, first he is not a US citizen now he assassinates them huh?

Paul doesn't want to give Iran nukes .. he thinks that the US doesn't have the right to tell them not to have them .... different than what you are regurgitating from some talking head on TV .. Dick Cheney feels like you do .. you a closet neocon .. or just a democrat warhawk?
Paul doesn't want Iran or Pakistan to have nuclear weapons .. he points out what is the difference if Iran has a nuclear weapon or Russia has a nuclear weapon .. it would appear as if we aren't bosom buddies with Pakistan right now either. Why is Khrushchev who said he would bury America different than Iwearpajamas from Iran?
Obama ... what has he done to stop Iran from getting nukes oh really he's done that much, ... Obama says the 'world' must stop Iran from having nukes .. .. is that a euphemism for NATO .. the UN ... or just a way of saying .. I have no guts to actually make a decision on this issue myself and default to UN with country's like China, Russia, France and Turkey and Uganda to make this call via the UN.
Lets see, war hawk...
I supported Afganistan, and not Iraq also i was one of those to warn others that once we go into Iraq we couldnt just leave and it would be a very long issue. I also supported Libya but more so because it was a UN war and we had asked the UN to help us for a decade now. I guess i am one of the few people who understand what paying a debt is (Ron Paul default)
You know nuclear power was designed for subs and never intended for the scale we use it on, i guess Japan wasnt a big enough eye opener for you. Shame considering you're location. And my view on it is, none of us would be using it given the choice, and it doesnt take a genious to say lets not add more bad to the world. Amazed you would say otherwise.
Also, do you really not see a difference in Russia and Iran? If you say no difference i might suggest you get out of the 80s (was a bad idea then also). End of the day Russia already has nuclear power (which was fail for them) and weapons (also fail considering how much we hear of their security) All those pesky regulations you bitch about every day the only thing that keeps America's nuclear program safe.
I suggest you listen to the actual interview, that this misinterpretation came from .. imagine the main stream media cutting out a sound byte and leaving out the rest of it .. why would they do that? So talking heads on TV could spread partial truths on what he said .. so that main stream media can then print those in articlws .. so uninformed people ... will not get the whole story on what he actually said. Just the other day you were complaining on how Z and I didn't research things before we posted on it .. man .. your kettle isn't just black, it's got soot flaking off of it.
They have discovered a virtual treasure chest of rare earth minerals in Afghanistan .. I'm sure that is not the reason that the war in Afghanistan was escalated .. what do you think? Not the first wave of attacks but the second escalation by Obama? This wealth of rare minerals has been discussed before - but a USGS report was released recently ... funny how if you google this you can find mention of this report on small websites - not much from main stream media sites though.
Nikita Khrushchev at the United Nations General Assembly in 1960 said ... "We will bury you!"
It doesn't take a 'genious' to understand what animal posturing is .. animals in the wild and 'civilized' people do it all the time ... just as you, in internet fashion are trying to do the same in your simplified fashion. Khrushchev and Iwearpajamas - it's posturing.
I don't mean to downplay the security risks and threats from Russia, Iran, China they are serious risks, and I do believe we should have a nuclear deterrent - I would not have downsized our nuclear weapons like Obama has done .. you know .. Obama they guy you likely voted for and will vote for again because he has a (D) after his name.
If you think that the take down of Qaddafi is about saving innocent rebel lives .. then you just might be a sheeple - it's about oil and money. Otherwise the 'noble' UN just might have done something about the massacre in Rwanda, Darfur, Myanmar???
Yeah yeah, we went to Afganistan for rare earth minerals and Bush blew up the WTC, heard it all before. Its a disgrace for you to make accusations like that, same as it was for others to make them about Bush..I might also add you would never and have never seen me stoop so low. For the subject at hand though, Sorry but if you dont want to speak about reality we have nothing to discuss.
And yeah, unless someone better comes along i will vote for Obama, and no not because of a (D) infront of his name.. Because he is NOT the one wanting to cut every social program that helps people and let the rich walk. He is NOT the one who got us in this situation and over all he has got us through it. The guy you support wanted a full defalt, you know the one who would have got us a full credit downgrade. You know way worse then the single downgrade you complained about so much under Obama because he had a (D) next to his name.
Funny though you only speak about issues that have to do with dems, i on the other hand will speak about all of the issues. And you sit and call me slanted? Eh, i think maybe less then yourself. And i am far more honest with my intentions then you, so dont even go there.
Aulaqi deserves his fate for high treason by his own words and actions. I would have preferred a trial, but hiding out with terrorists in another country makes that difficult....

Ron Paul is condemning the Obama administration for killing an American born al-Qaida operative without a trial - said he was assassinated
...some interesting discussion from the readers
