In 2005, the typical household defined as poor by the government had a car and air conditioning. For entertainment, the household had two color televisions, cable or satellite TV, a DVD player, and a VCR. If there were children, especially boys, in the home, the family had a game system, such as an Xbox or a PlayStation.[4] In the kitchen, the household had a refrigerator, an oven and stove, and a microwave. Other household conveniences included a clothes washer, clothes dryer, ceiling fans, a cordless phone, and a coffee maker.

The home of the typical poor family was not overcrowded and was in good repair. In fact, the typical poor American had more living space than the average European. The typical poor American family was also able to obtain medical care when needed. By its own report, the typical family was not hungry and had sufficient funds during the past year to meet all essential needs.

The FF has set very high standards for poverty in America.

We wish we had an Xbox or Playstation here at the bunker by the way. If you feel our pain, send one to ACORN along with a secret note that it's supposed to go to the bunker, and we may or may not receive it.

Give a man a fish and he will become a government dependent progressive voter. Teach a man to fish and he become a self sufficient and conservative Angel of Satan. Biden 3:24

Just one more example that the income redistribution that you are worried about is actually going the other direction. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The whining coming from those who are doing very well is unjustified and unwarranted.

2007 .. starting then, that's when the dems controlled the house and senate in congress - until this past year when the repugs took control of the house of reps.

Gramps .. did you read the comments .. well actually it was from the Heritage Foundation ... it was saying that America's poor are pretty well off compared to the rest of the worlds poor. Not that it is any consolation when you don't have enough to eat or warm clothes to wear.

I think most of the whining is mostly coming from liberals ..... Now liberals are very generous with other peoples money .. but when it comes to charity ... it would appear that

The 50-state ranking has a decided Red State-Blue State flavor: 28 of the 29 "most generous" states are Red States that voted for President Bush (including all 25 of the "most generous" states), while 17 of the 21 "least generous" states are Blue States that voted for Senator Kerry (including all 7 of the "least generous" states):

Red State Blue State Map of Generosity

the idea that liberals give more is a myth ....the conservative/liberal difference goes beyond money:

"The people who give one thing tend to be the people who give everything in America. You find that people who believe it's the government's job to make incomes more equal, are far less likely to give their money away."

Bleeding Heart Tightwads and in another study ... writes a liberal ... Come on liberals, redeem yourselves, and put your wallets where your hearts are. 1D
