Kent said the bookstore had previously carried mints in tins that depicted former President George W. Bush when he was in office.

Some good comments by readers.

Man .. some people sure can shovel it, but they have a hard time taking it.

I guess you don't remember that there was a national time of rage against the Dixie Chicks, their CDs were smashed in protests all over the country, their music was banned by thousands of radio stations, and so on because one of the Chicks said, what?

She said she was ashamed to be from the same State as President George W Bush. *gasp*

Do you really see this mint thing as having a similar reaction among this president's supporters?

I don't see anything wrong with the Disappoint Mints. What's the problem?

I bought some sin-o-mints at a museum gift store, and have seen estrangemints, derangemints, entanglemints, and more.

Mr. Gramps is right on both counts.

I love it when steamed agrees with Gramps .. and he does it often.

The is no problem with the mints .. whether it was GW or Obama .. only they weren't taken down when it was GW's face on the tin - were they? You don't have to buy them but to take them off the shelf?

Dixie Chicks .. I think that the rage more came from .. who the F are you guys and why do I care what you think. Many liked GW more than the Dixie Chicks apparently and they demonstrated their freedom of speech by showing the chicks what they thought of their music and political views.

I would hope that you have a full set of the Dixie Chicks CD collection .. don't you'all? I couldn't tell you one Dixie Chick song or album or recognize them if they were standing next to me.

A lot of the Dixie Chicks reaction was staged by Clear Channel, a company in the radio business and a company that was sucking up the the Bush Administration to let them buy up more and more radio & TV stations. They got what they wanted too, and at one time they dominated the radio and the TV media in many cities owning multiple channels in each town.

So some of the reaction was the typical manufactured outrage, but let's face it, the Loyal Bushies were a very thin skinned group. They didn't like it when they got anything but uncritical adoration for their Fearless Leader.

Loyal Obama supporters are a very thick skinned group. They don't mind when it when they get critical un-adoration for their Fearless Leader. You will not hear progressives dispute an opposing thought or criticism - only a display of adoration and thanks for a diversity of views and opinions. I liked it when they decided Earl had to be killed and poisoned his black eyed peas. It was such a comforting song to me and I felt that Earl represented, in the Dixie Chick's eyes, repugs.
