Why did the west attack Iraq?
Iraq - There were several reasons given, congressional approval given as well ...
Libya ... well your guess is as good as mine .. cuz Daffy Gaddaffi was a meanie but the people in Libya lived a better life than many in the region as Daffy gave his people (or those loyal to him) plenty of perks, higher education in that country than most. No congressional approval .. the money spent is unreal and the folks the UN is supporting are not very nice people either.
The reasons given, which have been fairly well debunked, and the reason for, are not necessarily the same thing.
One word: oil.
Oil, base in the middle east, Hussein was trying also to sell his oil not in US dollars but gold .. the Central Banks did not like this very much.
One of the most rational reason we are in Libya now, oil and currency and that QaDaffy wanted to sell his oil for gold, his plan to introduce the gold dinar, a single African currency made from gold, a true sharing of the wealth. There were two conferences on this, in 1986 and 2000, called the World Mathaba conference, organized by Gaddafi. Everybody was interested, most countries in Africa were keen. Gaddafi did not give up. In the months leading up to the military intervention, he called on African and Muslim nations to join together to create this new currency that would rival the dollar and euro. They would sell oil and other resources around the world only for gold dinars.
It is an idea that would shift the economic balance of the world.
There is not a good reason why we are in Libya and we're not in another 5 more countries in Africa which have worse conditions and have more terrible leaders and wars.
Dang .. Gramps would moan daily about how Iraq was such a farce and he can't even spell Libya, Qadaffi and Obama in the same sentence .. I've never seen it.
He who controls the money controls everything.
I am not arguing with you, I am agreeing with you. Qadaffy wanted to stop selling oil to France and start selling to China.
It is also not rational to think that we can fight wars on 3 different fronts and not increase revenues, ie taxes, to pay for them.
I think it is more than just oil .. it is about control of money and petro dollars.
I think that China has benefited the most from the Iraq oil sales .. of course I am not sure what corporation(s) has benefited the most out of the process.
Taxes haven't been raised so much that the debt ceiling has been raised so that there is more money available. The Fed Reserve can just whip up a fresh batch of electronic money if congress asks for it for banks, Wall Street, foreign country's aid, bail out a auto company, buy some clunkers etc.
