Is there an alternate solution? What is the best way to insure that the funds go to the kids' welfare? Is there another fix for this problem without subjecting innocent parties to search without probable cause?
I don't know about that, but I do know that these tests have an error rate. It is small, but if you are testing hundreds of thousands of people there are going to be hundreds or thousands of false positive results. That means that there will have to be a mechanism for people to challenge their results. This will have to involve the courts and lawyers, further clogging up our courts over something unnecessary.
Yeah, I agree that clogging up the courts is unnecessary. However, an alternate solution to the problem seems necessary to me. If that could be figured out, then the whole issue would be defused.
It seems a waste of time to be arguing for/against searching the poor, if we could just find another solution.
Maybe I'm naive to think there might be another way out of these kinds of problems. It's probably like my opinion on illegal immigration from Mexico (fix Mexico so people desire to live there).
A one time drug test isn't really a drug test, it is an intelligence test. If you know you are going to be tested when you apply for benefits all you have to do is stop using long enough to pass the test.

Plus they have very high false positive rates and are easily defeated by cheating. It's just a subsidy for the governor's buddies.
This is shameful. The transfer of money might go from FF organized drug gangs to jobs for undocumented aliens at drug clinics -- not that this is all bad. As well, this could create fewer government dependents, the antithesis of the FF goal. I can see no alternative but to continue to allow as many people as possible sign up for and get welfare as our progressive foundations will pay for them so taxpayers -- except for the rich and greedy ones -- don't have to.

BO puts billons of repug taxpayer dollars in the hands of those who give him political support. Look, this is politics and politics are based on slipping money in others pockets. Much of the world are social demomocrats, communists and socialist; we'll have a storm of anonymous money arriving from these people and their government like N. Korea, Russis, China and so on. How much of the world supports repugs? Hardly any. We will steamroll the repugs with anonymous domnations. After we told BO this he quickly changed his mind and went to a pro anonymous donations stance and turned against the limitation of anonymous donations.

EDIT: I'm much more ambivalent now that I've actually read the article. I wouldn't be getting a paycheck if I had failed the drug test my company makes all new hires undergo prior to finalizing their job offer.
