You guys have to be kidding .. really .. cleaning brush in Crawford Texas, the Secret Service stayed at the ranch. You may say that GW spent too much time at his ranch - where he said he had a working vacation but comparing rural Crawford Texas to luxury vacation spot in Hawaii - seems pretty outlandish. The royal trip to Spain this summer for the first lady and a few hundred friends and servants and guards, the recent caravan to the wilds of India.
I thought it was good when GW was in Texas, he was probably doing less work. Obama is doing less work in Hawaii and when he is on the gold course so much. I just think that trying to compare the costs of going to his private residence in Texas or to the family mansion in Maine. Obama isn't staying with friends or at his old digs in Hawaii.
Not to be asking tough questions - but I would bet that none of you (or me or most MV'ers) have been on excessive vacations this year - have you? The rich get richer ... I'm not American royalty .. it's good to be King.
Ah, i think the point was he complains so much now that its Obama doing it and not before.
Not to mention that Bush did take quite a few more vacation days then Obama has by this point in his administration.
Look where the old king GW vacationed vs where the new king and his court have been vacationing .. Crawford Texas vs Spain, India, Hawaii, New York Plays - not much of a comparison.
I've been to Camp David .. well actually just outside of the compound - it is a nice place to get away too.
No matter who the president is, the there will always complaining about them .. you do remember the protesters against the war in Crawford Texas ... how about he takes so much time off compared too ....
My only issue is the extravagance of the vacation that this president has exhibited. In the toughest economic times in 90 years ... he has no problem spending money when the rest of the country has tightened it's belts - not a great example - don't you think? The big parties at the WH - I suppose could be due to his social lifestyle. A google of white house parties obama has quite a few more hits than the same for GW. GW's big complaint was the number if days while on vacation - which is ironic since those same people who complained about that despised the man and you'd think that they would be glad when he wasn't in DC. Many who complain about how much golf Obama plays instead of taking care of business should also be glad that he is not taking care of business as well. Like I said before, the lavish vacations compared to the tough economic times that MOST Americans .. besides that 1% filthy rich, is what I think is the issue. I'm sure McCain would have been as equally lavish with his vacations. It's good to be King.
BTW - complaints about the police roughing up some journalists - they could be out 'protecting' the average citizen instead of watching over the King and his entourage.

Odd, you throw a fit when the gov tells you how to spend money or expects you to pay taxes to help out in "the toughest economic times in 90 years" yet you have no issues being a judge on how a president should spend his money after he has payed his taxes?
As for the police, you are saying they could be out roughing up average citizens and not journalists.. Because i doubt they are going to change what they do... I would imagine the average citizen might get a bit more roughed up in the day to day duty of said police then a journalist out waiting for a hot hot news story.
Unless you are saying he should pay everyones sallery involved personaly which is just kinda silly. The money a president spends like this comes from a discretionary budget that is already in place. If it where not spent this way it would be another.
The complaint about all us normal americans cutting back.. Lets just say those making 200,000-500,000k a year complaining about taxes.. I doubt they missed the family vacation, and if so it was only pay for the new jag payment that they shouldnt have taken on but with the car sales market tanking they could steal one hell of a deal... Those people making less prob didnt have a vacation planned anyway other then kicking back for a week before being forced to go back to hell lol So i kinda dont buy that being so unfair to the normal American. No more unfair then the richer still being able to do so and complaining about taxes the whole trip.
