This especially needs to happen with children's toys! A big cardboard box sealed for the Apocalypse, the a heavy duty heat sealed plastic bubble, then everything inside is either tied with wire that is then taped down or inside another plastic bubble that has the tabs taped to the back of the cardboard insert! One horse for an American Girl Doll had a stack of leftover packaging big enough to make it's own bonfire, if you actually wanted to burn all that plastic!

I like to buy stuff in stores, where I can see what I am getting and how it is packaged.

Also, I make liberal use of scissors, knives, and other tools when opening packages.
