But it IS news if you are gay and at the same time mastermind a political campaign with the get-out-the-vote cornerstone of gay bashing.
It is news because the campaign this guy ran, won the White House for a second term for George W Bush in part due to a fear campaign concerning gays.
It was the God, Guns, and Gays campaign and it is noteworthy that the guy running it was in the closet at the time.
How can you not get this point?
Did you read what I wrote
There are gay dems, repubs and libertarians, Mormons, Christians, agnostics and atheists too.
The repubs were pandering to the moral majority .. just as the dems now are playing it as if all repubs hate gays .. it's not that way, unless you live in a black and white world .. which so many people do live in .... how can you not get this point?
Because an anti-gay republican is gay, the democrats are hypocritical?
The response from what I consider Gramps to be .. a typical democrat .. being gay is OK .. unless you are a Republican .. then some how there is some sort of disconnect .. as if one's political party had a bearing up one's sexual preferences. The dems will 'say' that being gay doesn't matter and let leave them alone .. yet when there is a gay republican .. his name must be spread on tabloids and blogs across the country. To me .. that is being hypocritical.
You live in Cali .. how did prop 8 not pass this past election .. there are at least 60% dems in tis state and yet it did not pass .. so therefore , there must be some dems who feel that gays must not have the same rights as everyone else. I' a registered repub and I voted for gays to have the right to marry and I know many other repubs that did the same .
It's ok to be gay, it's even ok to be a gay politician, and it's ok to be a gay republican (at least to me it is), but if you're a closeted gay politician with an anti-gay agenda that's when it starts to get not ok.
Even knowing about the outside interests pushing for prop 8, and their fear-mongering, I was still surprised that 8 passed. I know people who didn't vote one way or the other on it because it "wouldn't affect them".

Actually I don't really care what other people do sexually, among consenting adults. From my white bread perspective, a lot of folks seem pretty kinky to me, but as long as it doesn't affect me, what business is it of mine?
My problem with this guy isn't that he is gay, or likes to dress up like Barbara Streisand on weekends (as disturbing a thought as that is), or that he dips his partners in maple syrup, or whatever he does behind closed doors.
My problem with him is that while he was in the closet personally, he was actively selling a paranoid and socially regressive point of view. It really goes beyond hypocrisy.
I don't know what part of this you are failing to comprehend, Big T, I think it is pretty obvious what is objectionable in this story.
I guess your democrat leader just might be a hypocrite by your definition Obama's Gay Marriage Position Called a Disgrace
Prop 8 Ruling Exposes Democrats' Weak Support For LGBT Community
Would you really vote to support gay equality .. or are you just like so many others that say you don't care but you wouldn't support them .. like the majority of democrats in California and states across the nation?
There are a lot of things with the repub and dem party - their support or lack of support fro gay equality seems to span both parties which is typical as they are hard to tell apart these days.
"It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life," Mehlman told Ambinder. "Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago." Seems like he has conquered these fears .. why make it a political issue when it is not .. that is my point - it is a human issue not a political party issue. If he would have had some guts he could have help change things in the repub party .. if that is what he wanted to do professionally ... yet he gave up his core beliefs to belong and to advance to the party he wanted to work for. Too bad there are so many politicians on both sides of the aisle that have given up their core beliefs.
Whether or not a person supports equality in this sense is a politically issue. People support it or not based on all kinds of considerations. I don't really have a problem with people having a position on this, or any other issue.
Again, the problem with this guy is that he was selling a false, scary image of the issue, knowing full well that he was a hypocrite and a fraud. He sold his soul to a devil who believed that people like him were immoral and evil.
It goes way beyond supporting this or that political issue. The guy was spreading irrational fear of a group that included himself. This isn't just weird, it is schizophrenic, in other words crazy.
It would like finding out that that a guy leading a effort to get evolution out of the schools was secretly a molecular geneticist.
Among the many reason why the FF is anti-Republican. Obama does not hide his gay opposition and that is why the FF installed the Manchurian candidate.
I understand your sympathy for this in-the-closet gay hatemonger.
He is a guy pretending he is something he isn't while spreading fear and disinformation. Sounds familiar, don't it?
Ken Mehlman gay? Online conservatives don 19t seem to care much
Read more at the Washington Examiner: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/ken-mehlman-gay-online-conservatives-dont-seem-to-care-much-101711593.html#ixzz0y3b54u7h
We didn't care about Mehlmans personal life then, and we don't care now. I believe our attitude is characteristic of the vast majority of conservatives. We wish Mehlman well. But whether Ken Mehlman is or is not gay has no bearing on the public policy question of whether gay marriage is a good idea or a bad idea. . .
What we see here is a reflection of an obsession of the left, not the right.
Big_T
I am not too sure why this is a news story .. if he was a democrat then this wouldn't have even been news .. goes to show the democrats can be just as hypocritical if not more than the repubs when it comes to human rights as gays .. the repubs shy away from gay issues .. the dems profess to love gays and 'want'to treat them as anyone else ... UNLESS of course he is a repub gay - then it is NATIONAL news.
