What is important here is that the company that makes this product get government money. Benefit to the patient is obviously not a concern, since there really isn't any.
Also at issue here is that they have concocted a perfectly good political story line concerning Death Panels, and they are damned well going to crowbar that story line into the political world whether it fits or not.

We are now working to deem the second most expensive cancer drug... ineffective. The ways to weaken and destroy the US are legion.
A state is better governed which has but few laws, and those laws strictly observed.
