Types of Abortion
Treatened
There is bleeding from the placental site, which is not yet severe enough to terminate the pregnancy. The cervix is closed but there may be a few painful uterine contractions. The pregnancy is likely to continue.
To remember the causes of abortion at different stages of pregnancy, learn the following rules of thumb:
First trimester causes: majority are associated with abnormal fetuses.
Second trimester causes: mainly due to uterine abnormalities.
Third trimester causes: mainly the result of maternal abnormalities.
Inevitable
Bleeding is slight but the cervix is usually open. Clinically the patient presents as a threatened abortion but bleeding is retroplacental and the fetus is already dead. Occasionally, products of conception may be felt in the cervical canal.
Incomplete
The fetus and membranes are expelled but the chorionic tissue remains attached and bleeding continues. Abortion must be completed by curettage.
Complete
The products of conception have been passed per vaginum and the uterus is empty. There is little bleeding, the uterus is small and the cervix closed.
Missed abortion
The embryo fails to develop or dies in utero but the products of conception are not expelled. The whole pregnancy is gradually absorbed, and often presents gynecologically as an unexplained amenorrhea. After about 12 weeks, the formation of a carnous mole (lobulated mass of laminated blood clot) is likely and after 18 weeks a macerated fetus is usually expelled.
Recurrent
This refers to three consecutive spontaneous abortions.
Note from me... The dilation and curettage surgical procedure is often necessary for an inevitable, incomplete or missed abortion. This procedure is what most anti-abortion groups want to make illegal and why, if it were, many women would be in serious medical trouble were a medical necessity clause not included in such a law as many of these situations can lead to maternal death should the intervention be unavailable.
You forget that for anti abortion fanatics the 'life' of a dead fetus is more important than the life of its still-living mother.
The notion that we can't expel an already dead baby from its mother's body is an abomination. It is fundamentalism at its most absurd.
You forget .. for the pro abortion fanatics a living human being can be aborted and left to die on the table.
The proposal specifies coverage "includes only abortions and contraceptives that satisfy the requirements of" several specific statutes, the most pertinent of which is 18 Pa. C.S. 3204, which says abortion is legal in Pennsylvania. The statute essentially says all abortions except those to determine the sex of the baby are legal.
If you don't want kids, than get fixed or use protection or better yet don't have sex, so killing a baby because of your mistake should not be allowed.
Once a child is born and becomes a citizen of the world, yes. But until that time, the child is part of its mother's body and she has to make the decision. That isn't a totally satisfactory solution but anything else it tyranny.
It's called personal responsibility. The child should have a right to live (maybe incest, rape, truly threaten the life of the mother accepted).
