I carried an M-14 while in Korea in the 60s and thought it was quite a good weapon! I will admit I never had the opportunity to try it on full auto though! Semi-Auto aimed fire seemed to work rather well for me! I will also say most of the time I was there all I carried was the M1911A1 Service .45, With a round in the chamber and at half cock! The heck with racking back the slide for the first round! When you needed it, you needed it right now!
story says 7.62 mm bullet of m-14 was fine but they using a knock off now m-4... the zipgun of ordinance
The M14 is still a good gun. I build parts for them from time to time. I know a guy that has everything match grade and he claims he has about $4000 in it.
Jeez, some old fart congressman wants the DoD to send a contract to his district, and the AR platform is a problem again.
This bitching goes completely against the recent reports of how engagements were turning out in Afghanistan, and the deciding factor wasn't platform or caliber, but training, communications, and level of maintenance of equipment.
And don't forget the availability of cluster and fuel-air fire support.
I thought the ACR variant of the M-16 was going to work better with 6.8mm round as a quick change option.
All I know is the civilian model costs about 2800 obamas at the local gun shop.
Lets all just agree that there is on one rifle that is perfect for all circumstances! M-4 is good for unassing vehicles and sweeping buildings, M-14 is good on open or hilly territory and longer ranges, M-16 is great in Jungles and woods and at moderate ranges! Didn't they have one that you could swap out the receiver and barrel and change calibers and barrel lengths on! Still have to carry all the crap for both situations or get caught short!
Yes. The ACR In the post above this one.

An M-4 is not a sniper rifle...How did procurement miss this one?
