Civilian trials implies that terrorists are criminals, common scumbags. They would prefer to think of themselves as Freedom Fighters (FF) or as soldiers of God or as having some other quasi-military status.
Treating them like criminal scum is giving a healthy dose of reality that may make it more difficult to recruit more scumbags to carry out missions of terror.
Why elevate their status to the one that they want to have, but don't deserve?
