This seems like a no win for hard core conservatives, who love State's Rights and Gun Rights. It almost seems like a Sophie's Choice scenario if you have to choose between the two most important issues in your political philosophy.
There is no doubt that for true conservatives, the Second Amendment trumps anything, so I have no doubts about how this deeply conservative Supreme Court will vote, but the issue itself seems very destructive to the soul of conservatism.
States Rights don't apply here due to the 2nd Amendment gives the people the right to bear arms, since the states can't take way our rights.
The only conflict here is for people that have a strange, warped view of the constitution and our rights.
States can't limit our rights. The rights outlined in the constitution do not change from state to state. The rights of the state do not, somehow trump individual rights.
Sounds nice in theory, but I can think of many examples where government, whether federal, State, or local trumps individual rights all the time.
And the idea that 2nd Amendment Rights are absolute is so far beyond actual reality that I hardly know where to start. Try taking your guns to the airport or any number of other places where there are restrictions against them (courtrooms, sports arenas, OJ's hotel room, the list is endless)
I was speaking constitutionally rather than realistically. In reality, our Bill Of Rights is only rarely considered when making laws.

FWIW, the supreme court is almost certainly going to overturn Chicago's handgun ban by the same 5-4 majority that overturned DC's ban. It'll be interesting to read the decision to see under what basis they are applying the 14th amendment to the 2nd amendment.
