>"Similarly, if you managed to hack 3,000 e-mails from some scientist's account, you might well find a few that showed them behaving badly, or at least talking about doing so."

Those actual emails show the naughty "scientists" and their manipulation of data, destruction of data, collusion to suppress opposing views, lying to hide the decline of temps, evasion of FOI requests, hijacking of the "peer review" process including collusion to block out all dissent from scientific journals with secure friendly reviewers who could be counted on to rubber-stamp their own work.

These emails are more than a few people "behaving badly". It is a complete refusal to follow any scientific protocols. Their work is so completely compromised, it can't be considered scientific at all.

The one where they said "If the glove don't fit you must acquit."

The connection is that in both cases, mountains of good evidence was ignored because of skillful manipulation of people's emotions and prejudices and the practice of taking the normal mistakes, errors, and screw ups that are common to any human activity and blowing those out of proportion to overshadow that actual solid evidence available.

Science is tedious and boring, so a talented and unscrupulous individual can make the topic interesting by turning it into a political game of left vs right. There are many people around who wouldn't believe that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west if a pundit convinced them that it was a 'Leftist' or worse yet 'Socialist' point of view.

They actually do just that in the phony debate concerning Evolution vs The Flying Spaghetti Monster. Evolution is 'Liberal' which means no amount of evidence will convince one of these people otherwise. Same goes, in a somewhat more sophisticated way with climate change. The more good evidence there is for it, the less the public buys the idea, because of well funded and totally unethical pundits who put the political spin on it.
