Kinda shocked you didnt like this guy, he had a lot of Conservative ideals for a dem..
I can go down the list for reasons that I hate him:
the airport
the huge amounts of pork wasted
calling marines murderers
two purple hearts without a day in the hospital and other questionable medals.
That true, and i didnt say i liked the fellow but he was fairly conservative for a dem, so i'm shocked some of the ideals he ran with didnt fit. Say a lot of his special interest dealings could very well be completly ignored after the repub court's idea on corpirate spending. Defense contractors being a huge donator to him is also fairly repub, he would also bring dem votes to repubs through deals etc.
There have been a number of true war heros on both sides of the aisle who forgot some of their ethics once they got into office, but this guy proved his mettle by being one of only a small handful of Congressmen who called out Bush for his phony WMD scam.
Most members of both parties went along with the false narrative that Iraq posed a great and growing threat to the security of the US, when every one of them either knew or should have known that it was untrue.
Murtha spoke truth to power when few others would and for that, brave sir, I salute you!
For his love of pork and sucking up federal dollars I give him a big fat
meh, he supported it at first, then went against it later on. But imo he acts about like a repub, just ran on the wrong ticket. lol
There was a guy who was a Congressman from California who I always thought of as Murtha's evil twin. His name was Duke Cunningham (I think)and he was a fighter pilot and an Ace. A really great war hero, an episode of a series on The Military Channel was devoted to how he won a battle against a superior enemy of fighter pilots.
Once he got into Congress, he was such a bad guy that I think he is still in jail over shaking down defense contractors.
My point is that both of these guys did tremendous service to their country and yet couldn't behave themselves when they got their hands on the cookie jar. I think to be honest you have to look objectively at both parts of guys like this. Acknowledge their heroism and their shortcomings. And not just talk about one and ignore the other along party lines.
My comment had nothing to do with party lines. I acknowledge his service to the Country (and his disservice to the Marines) and still think he was a jerk.

That is one why to remove a crook from office, but should have happened last time....
