I really knew nothing about this guy, except what I see in the MSM, which is that he is a toady for big banking, a guy who helped create the problem that we are trying to get out of.
I had to sit in my doctor's office for 3 hours during Christmas vacation for a mystery ailment (all better now, thanks!) This gave me an opportunity to read the series of articles in Time about this guy, who has spent most of his adult life as an academic, an authority on The Great Depression.
I still can't say that I approve of everything this guy is doing, but it is clear that he is the major reason we are limping toward economic recovery right now and not in Great Depression II.
Love him, like him, or hate him, he is the one that is handling this gigantic problem, and so far is getting the best of it. It is also clear that this Bush appointee isn't doing things the Obama way, the president is letting him do it his. So while Obama gets the political credit if the disaster is averted and the blame if it isn't, it is clear that this guy is doing it his own way.
The more I read, the more this guy comes off as nobody's toad, and that rare breed, a true original. Again, I still don't understand most of what he is doing, but he certainly deserves the person of the year award.
Otherwise it would have to go to Obama, who has already gotten the Nobel Peace Prize this year and doesn't really need more recognition.
I would point out that Time Magazine awards Person of the Year to the person who has had the biggest impact on our culture. That is why Adolf Hitler won Person of the Year once (and before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, no, I'm not comparing Ben Benanke to Hitler). Just something to keep in mind.
