Hilarious. That is $380 million not spent on health care and prescription drugs. And after this bill passes, billions of tax payers dollars are going to be funneled into these very same companies. This has been a total victory for the health insurance companies. Congratulations, imbeciles.

What did you expect they have a LOT of money on the line! With a Public option they would actually have to compete for business, that means cut out some of the perks and high salaries! Though they would probably just keep on denying claims to make up some of it!

Something to think about, the fact that they have that kind of cash to throw around, when the insurance companies whine about the high cost of health care.

Also something to think about is how much of this money was spend on ways that aren't obvious, such as funding teabagger events and staging some of those angry-as-hell town hall bullies.

If reform wasn't a good thing for consumers, why would they be against it? They have a sweet deal now, basically collecting from employers and employees and then deciding what to cover and what not to cover when someone needs health care. They have the money, and the power to make decisions. No wonder they are willing to spend so much money, and come up with so many goofy talking points against reform, such as killing Granny and socialism.

Too bad much of the public is taken in by the show and can't see what is really going on here, plain and simple this is consumers vs insurance providers. The insurance lobby is working hard to convince you to come down hard on the side of providers and against your own interests.

Something to think about is how much money that the health care and Big Phram companies are going to make with Obamacare. There could be some losers in the Health Insurance companies ... but there would be some BIG winners too .. the Pharm comapnies can't lose now .. or with Obamacare. If we had a true national healthcare run by the govt then both of those players would not make out quite so will I'm thinking .. which is why that will never happen in our day. Follow the money.

Are you intentionally a moron? "Obamacare" would have included a public insurance option administered by the government or a "buy in" option for Medicare. The reason the health isnurance industry is getting so much money is because hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent lobbying Republicans (mainly). The health care bill that left the finance committee in the Senate is very much Republican. Democrats gave up almost all of their parts in the bill; it has been watered down to win sufficient Republican (read: insurance industry) support.

The concept of Obama Care, if it ever really existed at all, is totally dead at this point. Congress is writing the legislation, which is why the health care industry is spending its money there.

As you say, Big T, follow the money, not only where it is coming from, but where it is going.

In the end, those with the Gold are likely to make the Rules, so if we get reform at all, it is going to benefit the companies spending all this money first, and the public in general last.

The myth of socialism has hit the brick wall of lobbyists with nearly a half-billion to spend on getting things done their way.

Are you intentionally a major throbbing hemorrhoid?

Tell me who is to profit when everyone is to be insured. There will be many more people in the system, there will be more money spent ... that money comes from somewhere, notably taxpayers, do yo think that companies will just fork over more money to insure people because people in DC say so ... if they do the costs go to the consumer. The money goes to health care providers and big pharm companies. These guys are going to make money either way .. lot's of it. Do you think we will as a country spend less money on health care if Obamcare goes through?

If you think there is much of a difference between the two sides of the aisle in DC .. both sides are greatly influenced by lobbyists to the detriment of this country and the people.

At its simplest, health insurance is a payer system. You sign a contract with an insurer, which pays for standard of care medical costs in keeping with the terms of your contract. If there were companies competing with one another for your contract on that basis, and if everyone was covered, there would be no need for reform.

The present system is dysfunctional. The insurance companies are abusing the public with weasel moves such as 'pre-existing conditions' and confusing their members with double talk and bull crap.

These companies pay a lot for lobbying and they are getting their money's worth. Congress is served, the insurance industry is served, very handsomely, and the public gets screwed over.

Payer systems are fairly straightforward as a business model. Medicare pays for care with only a tiny fraction of the administrative overhead that private companies require, but then again the Cabinet Member who heads up CMS doesn't draw an 8 or 9 figure salary. At the end of the day, we don't really need to pay some bloated executives for writing the checks for contracted services. If these guys were smarter than they are greedy, they would just accept the fact that they are going to have to do their jobs better because there is an alternative that doesn't have to include them.
