Did we read the same article or are you saying that their numbers are wrong? The one I read said that 6% of Scientists describe themselves as Republican and 55% as Democrats.
I agree though that the article and especially the comments (which got pretty incoherent and off topic) were biased.
Well, the whole site is liberally biased, and of course they don't actually provide a link to the source material (God forbid someone becomes informed with the "fine work" of the Raw Story to tell them what to think).
There is nothing wrong with material being liberally biased, or conservatively biased for that matter, as long as you are aware of the slant.
That being said, there is a lot of stuff in the conservative world view that can't be supported by a rigorous scientific point of view (some liberal stuff falls into the same category).
I think there is a problem for many scientists with a political philosophy that embraces ideas which require a rejection or a rewriting of scientific thought and history. Put the words, 'Creation' and 'Science' together and you will see what I mean. Creationism is about one step ahead of those who deny there was a moon landing.

Funny how you fail to see your own bias.

There is when it is presented as news. You certainly whine enough about the stuff Fox News puts on the air. You fail to give them a pass for being conservatively biased, yet you want the same for your own stories? News should present the facts, and let people draw their own conclusions. Another point, no where does the Raw Story admit the liberal bias. It claims to be present raw news, when it has pure spin on it like practically all other media.
I don't complain about FOX NEWS. I don't watch it or listen to it, or pay attention to it, so I don't even know what they are doing over there.
As for bias, it is part of the human condition. It is almost totally impossible to get rid of. We all have to one degree or another. To pretend otherwise is to kid yourself. Better to figure out what the bias is and then take that into consideration.

Oh, really? What about this? Selective memory must be nice.

As individuals, I agree with you. As far as news organizations, I won't ever agree. It is not hard to report facts without bias. Scientists do it all the time. In fact, all of science is built on the basis of removing any and all personal viewpoints from the search for the bare facts of a situation. Perhaps you lack that capacity, and based on your comments here and previously, I'm going to guess you are not a scientist (I am, I hold two science degrees and am pursuing a masters in science right now).
News with bias is called commentary, with good reason. They are two separate things. Commentary just sells better, and since news organizations are business, that is what they focus on. However, if they ever admitted they were solely commentators, they would lose some of their press access (at least the smaller ones would - CNN and Fox News are clearly too big to lose that). So the modern media passes off commentary as news and people want to believe it, so they do. As you claim above that you don't watch Fox News, you don't bother to see what the other viewpoints are, and thus live in willful ignorance.
I wasn't complaining, I just posted a story where someone was complaining.
I never saw any of the stories Obama complained about because I don't watch FOX NEWS, so it wasn't me complaining about them.
I am no fan of FOX NEWS, it is run by a Nixon era propagandist and dirty trickster, but this is sickening, way beyond anything acceptable.
That is a quote from you off of the first link I provided. If that is not complaining, then you and I have vastly different definitions of complain.
I'll also happily admit some of your complaints are quite valid about Fox News (and other random conservative "news" organizations). I would just like to see some consistency (and not just from you, there are many on this site and in the world who do the same thing). Either Fox News is justified in delivering "news" with a conservative spin, or all spin is bad (conservative, liberal, or whatever).
mmm... So they ask 100 high school chem teachers and thirty "scientologist" and you rush forward to share this poll with everyone?
There is a link to Pew's site. They hide their screening data and numbers. There is no info on the polling sample or size. A poll that includes the information should still be evaluated for slant, but to not included it tells you that it is rubbish. Would not have said any thing, but you use your reply to state that it is bias and then dig on creationism.
I do think that there are more democrat scientists than republican .. I think the above poll might have been skewed however, as stated there is nothing about whom or where they polled.
Scientists believe more in theories and not real life. Also many scientists and graduate studies depend upon the government funding for these things. So when there is a study .. let's say like U.S. Government Funds $400,000 Study on Gay Bar Sex .. would the republicans fund this as easily as the democrats would.
Too bad that the dems are just as clueless as the repubs when it comes to rational behavior .. as observed recently by Barbara Boxer saying that life as we know it depends on this crap and trade bill to pass
If anyone watches ABC news, then they should watch a little FOX news to help balance some of the news the talking heads spew out on both channels.
Another thing to point out is that polls are not scientific studies. They sound suitably impressive, but quite frankly it is next to impossible to perform an accurate poll, and even then there is a slight bias in the fact that it only takes into account those who answer polls.
Another thing to point out is that scientists in general have higher college degrees than the public, and quite often work in academia, both of which are also known to be highly liberal.
The FF controls education through Democratic teachers unions. Controlling education is one the primary objectives of the communist manifesto. The vast majority of professors at colleges (with the exception of economics professors which we somehow have difficulty in converting)are also progressives -- like Bill Ayers. The teaching of progressive ideals is the primary reason for attending and preserving colleges. These progressive ideals are imprinted in the minds of scientists and all others in college in order to carry the ideals to the public, The system works as designed; home schooling is our enemy and the reason we fight it in court so very hard. College faculties a most liberal lot. The vast majority of the media is also liberal. This shows that the 50% or so of the public that is conservative have not been put through liberal training, or their parents are not union members.

Dude, if you think 10% is really high in comparison to 9%, you must be really high!
