Its just business as usual: get everybody scared about a very rare sickness so they don't concentrate on the real issues i.e the recession and the scandals surrounding those who caused it getting huge payoffs.
same as with marijuana and alcohol. Marijuana will not kill you yet the old Gov's of the world will kick in your door and jail you for growing it or sometimes for using it, but its okay to get drunk and smash up the town or knock down some kids in the street.
You only get in trouble when you do something bad while drunk, not for possessing or purchasing the alcohol.
