I never said "Hussein" otherwise the quote is correct and sadly true as well.
For you to saddle the entire mess we are in to Bush is ridiculous...
I didn't mean to imply that George W Bush is 100% personally responsible for this mess, just that it would have been unlikely to happen without his involvement.
Take a look at Canada, which outlawed the kind of goofy mortgage bundling which has caused most of our banking crisis. Canada is in recession, but they aren't having a banking crisis. Preventing this part of the meltdown would have been as easy as saying no to that kind of craziness. Bush let it happen unfettered and unregulated.
Also, did you happen to see the secret Bush memos that were released by the Obama Administration yesterday? Anyone who wants to talk about a power grab should read those memos first. Very scary stuff no matter what your politics. I mean VERY SCARY stuff!
I read a few articles on the memos and seeing as I am not a terrorist nor a threat to the security of the US I am not too scared by them...
Okay, fine, but if you agree that the president has almost unlimited power to put people away without bringing charges against them, you may be forgetting that the guy you thought was able to handle all that power responsibly is out of office and that the same power falls into the hands of any sitting president. Some of the people Bush and his people put away turned out not to be terrorists and were eventually let go after a few years of being locked up. You better hope that the new guy is better at picking out the bad guys, because if he points at you, you won't have any recourse or Constitutional rights or any of that Leftist mumbo jumbo that conservatives (Rush, for one) always seem to suddenly care about when they are accused of wrongdoing.
Personally, I prefer it the old fashioned way, where everyone has rights, the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty, the right to a lawyer, and all that other Liberal Mush.
Talk about fear-mongering Gramps. The only people really affected by those memos would be foreigners, not US citizens, and I couldn't care less about them.
His rights were not stripped away. He was appointed counsel and went through the military system first, and then because of evidentiary bullshit and pressure from ACLU type assholes his charges were dropped. We had to settle for criminal charges in the civilian courts. His case is still being appealed today. So, sorry not a good example. Personally, I have no problem with Jose being an example for any other citizens who consider homegrown terrorism. I suggest they use him for testing to see the up close effects of dirty bombs.
You're kidding, right? Being whisked away and held incommunicado for YEARS isn't due process.
In my opinion he received more due process than he deserved. He had counsel that you and I paid for. He had 2 trials that you and I paid for. He is sitting in jail watching cable that you and I pay for. Fuck him. He was a lifetime criminal who had killed before. There was plenty of evidence of his connections with al Qaeda. There was plenty of evidence that he was conspiring to kill potentially hundreds of thousands of people. If whisking him away saved one life so be it. I am cool with people losing their rights when they deserve it. This asshole deserved everything that he got and more. Fuck him.
If they can do it to him, they can do it to you.
Not unless I try and blow up a city...
It's kind of funny that you and Gramps think I can be whisked away by the Presidents goons but seriously doubt that Obama can take away my guns in the near future...
Hmm, where were these State's Rights people seven years ago?
Also, where were these strict constitutionalists?
They were pledging eternal loyalty to Zod.
Waiting for things to wind through the court systems (which they did)
steamed
Sad
