I did grow up within a couple hundred miles of West, by God, Virginia, truth be told.
I really wasn't offended by Cheney's remark because I have heard it all before, such as the West Virginia State Motto, "Vice is nice but incest is best"
Or the song that goes;

It is very plain to see

This stuff is mildly funny coming from entertainers and professional goofballs, but the Vice President is supposed to represent the entire country, and I think it disrespects the office that Mr Cheney holds to make sport of an entire State he is supposed to be serving. It kind of fits the perception that Cheney is in office only to represent himself and his own interests.
He appears to hold the American people in high contempt and it shows when he talks like this.

No, I respect Cheney's intelligence.
He was a competent technocrat in the Nixon years, along with Rumsfeld and George Bush, Sr. He served as Defense Secretary with distinction under Bush Sr.
He is a serious guy alright, but something happened to him after Bush Sr lost his bid for reelection. Using the Darth Vader analogy he went over to the Dark Side. He used his defense contacts to get government contracts for Halliburton when he took over as CEO, when the company was rather small. He made millions cashing in on his decades of public service. I don't have a problem with that, even though the revolving door thing can be troubling at times. My problem is that he joined in on a malignant political philosophy called PNAC, which was looking for a Pearl Harbor type event to justify going to war with Saddam's Iraq in the belief that freedom and democracy would break out all over the Mideast if we did that.
Now I don't believe that Cheney is dumb enough to believe this happy horseshit, but he did sign on to this group, we had another Pearl Harbor on 9/11 and now we are in Iraq. It is hard to connect the dots here, but the dots sure lead to Dick Cheney.
But he is no clown.
