Republic not democracy (even if republic is based on democracy)....
Yes, it is great, maybe we can get out of there sooner than the 50 years I predicted before the start of the invasion. I sure hope I was wrong and that your enthusiasm is justified. (I think you were still living in candy-and-flowers fantasyland at that same time period)
60% of the voters turned out ... pretty good compared to apathetic US voters.
It took only months after the Korean conflict to pull all US troops out of Korea and convert to Democracy. Likewise it took only months to pull all US troops out of Japan and Germany and convert to Democracy after WWII. Here is looks to take years to pull troops out of Iraq. What a total failure of the Bush administration.
You're a hoot!
lol
That is exactly where my 50 year estimate came from, Korea, Italy, Japan, and Germany.
Maybe the Bush Administration isn't being judged according to realistic expectations because they used wildly unrealistic assumptions when selling the war to the public, including the candy and flowers nonesense.
This has turned out to be a sturggule not witht he Iraqis but with fanatics who want to have a jihad against the infidels .. sponsored by oil money and supported by the Iranians who would like to see another fundamentalist religous state next to them.
Every military commander that I have heard talk on the subject, says that 90% of the insurgents are Iraqis, only a hand full of foreigners are involved. That doesn't count the Iranians who don't have to go to Iraq to cause trouble, all they have to do is talk trash to their fellow Shiites, and slip a few weapons and/or money across the border.

What a great day for democracy!
What a great day for Iraq!
What a great day for our troops! We are several steps further toward bringing them home with a resounding victory!
