That is just disgusting. Being the father of a 22 month old daughter, I can tell you that children of that age can talk and understand what you are saying. Those girls were probably so confused and sad.

What's really sad is just how often these things occur.
Think about how many cases you hear about on what seems like a daily basis.......

.......It's sick.

Now, think about how many times things like this happen that we don't hear about.....

It's only getting worse. Sadder still is that we're almost immune to it now. You hear things so regularly that they seem to just become a part of every day life.

I did get a little desensitized to stories like these, until I had a kid of my own. Now, every single one of these news stories is like a shot to the gut. They make me want to personally hunt down the idiot parents responsible and torture them unmercifully. Or, at the very least, say something like this to their faces: "When you were that age, someone cared a lot more about you than you do about your own kid."

Infanticide is as common a human trait as producing stool. It's not that this happens more often, it's that information is now more readily available. It would be my hypothesis that in fact infanticide is exponentially lower than it was 50 and/or 100 years ago. While yes it might seem as though we are being desensitized to such atrocities I rather believe we are accepting of our nature.
