This isn't much different than the indoctrination that goes on in Cuba and other socialist nations. Just sayin.

This just goes to show that in the minds of those who oppose Obama, anything can become controversial.

Give me a name of any recent president who hasn't talked to school kids.

Bush was reading to kids in class during the 9/11/01 attacks, if I recall. No one said he shouldn't be doin that, indoctrinating them with his compassionate conservatism, which is at least a philosophy that Bush actually embraced (just in case you missed the point, Obama isn't really a socialist, doesn't endorse socialist the way Bush pushed his brand of conservatism, and has repeatedly said he doesn't like socialism)

Just sayin'

This just goes to show that in the minds of those that Love Obama (or any democrat) everything is just fine that they do.

There is a difference between reading a story to some young children in a classroom like GW did and giving an gee gosh I'm concerned about children and be all you can be speech across the country and the internet.

They were both PR moves ... just Obama's was on a grander, gaudier and more invasive nature

They even took out some of his controversial speech Among the activities initially suggested for pre-K to 6th grade students was to "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."

Another assignment for students after hearing the speech was to discuss what "the president wants us to do."

How does that make you feel .. what if GW had done that .. would it install some patriotism in you or make you feel a little nauseous. Is an inspiring speech for the young masses or just some PR move to make it seems like he cares.

As I said before, I'd prefer that the president spend some time and his effort trying to get Americans jobs and turn the economy around ... neither of which has he been successful with. BTW .. ensuring that Wall Street employees are doing great does not count.

Just sayin'

Obama is a socialist and claiming to not be one is just an attempt at labeling his BS as something else. He has done more to destroy our economy system with unnecessary spending and help of morons in Congress that will bankrupt our nation if it is not stopped soon. His desire to start a public option, which soon enough will be the only option due to the nature of the bill (why can they remove individuals and companies from their private plans?).

Anyone that needs to outright lie about anything to get it passed or has not read the bill (but still supports it) means they can't be trusted.

He has been playing his local organizer bit too much has he attempts to continue to campaign even after he's been elected. He wants a civil enforcement group (ala brown shirts and Mussonlini's Fasci Italiani di Combattimento) and tried to get uneducated drones to rally to his cause (College students from the indoctrinated colleges and People to turn in someone that they suspect as opposing obamacare). What an administration! Can't stay away from Saul Alinsky's evil methods, can he?

Always quick to defend BO huh Gramps?

There is a huge difference between the two. Bush was at Booker Elementary, a single school, to promote reading. Obama is addressing the entire nation of children to promote nationalism. Which one seems more like Fidel?

Sorry, there just isn't much of a difference except for scale.

What I do find interesting is that the borderline paranoid comments made by the anti-Obama guys on this thread would be more accurately applied to George W Bush than to Obama. I mean that.

It took Bush many years to get the economy to the point where it was on Jan 20th, with excessive spending and mixed up priorities. The economy is slowly turning around now that Obama has been in charge for 7 months or so. To see that in reverse is extreme myopia.

And as for nationalism, I don't see how Obama holds a candle to Bush's "You are either with us or against us" philosophy. Obama has done nothing but soften that line in the sand stuff.

I really think (very sincerely) that you guys who supported Bush knew deep down that he was going down the wrong path, that he was fibbing his butt off, and that you are now projecting his worst qualities onto Obama.

The alarmist crap about Oh God, he's addressing school kids, what are we going to DO, is so unrelated to reality that some kind of psychological mechanism must be at work.

Guys, every president talks to kids, nothing to see here, keep moving. The dangerous guy is out of office, you can relax now. Cooler heads are finally prevailing.

You are lucky there isn't a "punch the guy on the other computer" button on my keyboard Gramps. If you call me one of the "guys that supported Bush" again I am gonna find a way to add that button or head down south and start punching old dudes until I get the right one.

I made a simple comparison to Fidel's longtime tradition of radio addresses to school children. Obama is the first US President to hold a nationwide "support your president" speech to school children. It is a valid parallel.

All your anti-Bush babble while giving Congress a free pass is getting old.

Sorry if I offended you, but I was clearly addressing those individuals who were Bush apologists when he was in office and continue to apologize and project for him today. If you are not one of those, my comment doesn't apply to you, simple as that.

But seriously, man, you have lived in Florida long enough to know the differences between Fidel Castro and Obama. I can hardly think of any similarities at all.

To me the anti-Obamaism is so overheated, that it is past the point of ridiculousness. If you told me the president is addressing school children in a national address, my response would be .

That would apply if it was Obama, either one of the Bushs, Clinton, Nixon, or Herbert Hoover. It is a total non issue. To imagine it as some kind of socialist indoctrination is absurd. I mean wouldn't you need a real socialist to do that kind of thing, rather than a guy who is just a tad less unrestricted Free Market than the last guy?

I can think of several of Jeb Bush's policies, ones in my own industry, that go way beyond anything anyone has even projected onto Obama, that restrict Free Trade more than Obama has. Yet no one called Jeb a socialist.

As children across America go back to school, President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of taking responsibility for their success in school on Tuesday, September 8th at 12:00 PM EDT at Wakefield High School in Arlington. In advance of this address, the Department of Education is providing resources developed by and for teachers to help engage students and stimulate discussion about persisting and succeeding in school."

And who should one address on this subject? I guess the parents should be held responsiable and locked up if the kids fail..

Granted, i like some right wing theory, say smaller gov.. Can be a very good thing, but it seems this more a team sport then anything. Who cares about the message, we only care about the team supported.
