You do know that most businesses fail within a year or two of starting. While most governments don't.
In the state of Nevada, prostitution is legal (and always profitable). It is impossible to lose money in the world's oldest profession. The most profitable brothel ever was the infamous Mustang Ranch. The owner earned so many tens of millions of dollars, that he grew fabulously wealthy. But he "forgot" to pay his taxes. He was indicted for tax evasion, escaped to Brazil, and is still today a fugitive from justice. The U.S. government took over the Mustang Ranch. The most successful and profitable brothel in America went bankrupt in one year under government management. That ladies and gentleman, no matter how you feel about brothels, tells you all you need to know about the ability of government to run a business.
Lehman Bros went bankrupt. That ladies and gentleman will tell you all you need to know about how business are. As far as running a whore house, no government agency of any type should every do so. There are things that government should do and things that businesses should do. But always remember that business are amoral so if the thing being done has a moral dimension to it it should be done by the government.
No one is denying that business can and do go bankrupt .. you are the one denying that government can run a business - in that regard, government has an incredibly high failure rate.

The belief that all governments are corrupt and incompetent and that all businesses are incorruptible and competent is a very dangerous belief. This has caused people to put things in the hand of business that should never be put in the hands of business. Business is in the business of making money. Businesses are basically immoral. Businesses do not serve the greater good. They do not server mankind. They serve their owners. As an example of what I mean see the tobacco industry.
