A beautiful day in the neighborhood. A distant relative of mine worked on that show for the whole time it was on the air, but I didn't see him in the video. I hope he is okay.
About time. The fuckin guy deserved it a decade ago.
Did you hear he was a sniper in the military and killed a bunch of Charlies in Vietnam? He also had tattoos all over his arms and that's why he always wore long sleeves on TV. Yeah well none of that is true, but I liked the story when I read it. It made him more of a bad ass.
He was in the military, if I recall.
It seems odd to me, now looking back on it, that I never got to meet Mr Rogers. Odd because his show was broadcast within 2 miles of the house I grew up in, and that my Dad's cousin was a regular on the show, and its music director the entire time the show was on the air. I saw Joe at regular intervals at family gatherings, but never Fred.
If you think that makes him a bad ass, you should watch this:
Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
There was an email that went around awhile back that told of all the celebrities that were war heroes and bad asses. Ol' Fred was one on the list. I checked it out on truthorfiction.com and they said he never did serve in the military. He went straight from Rollins College (which is right up the road from me) to TV. He was a minister and basically the nice guy that we all saw on TV.
Just how I remember him, only totally different.
that guy was so cool and also fun to watch with my children.

Good, he deserves it.
