The primary determinants of health are physical activity levels and quality of diet. This isn't such a bad idea.
Nanny State .. I need a bureaucrat to tell me that I can go for a walk in the park ... but it has to be a pretty walk that tax payers have to pay for.
Hmm.
I have less of a problem with paying for a public park then paying for a CEO's bonus or paying off someone else's mortgage...at least I get a walk in the park.
However, I'm not sure that lighting will help with obesity. Much of that is simple self motivation.
I am guessing that lighting actually does, to some degree, decrease crime in recreational areas. Perhaps a light bulb has a better crime protection roi than a cop. Although a cop is needed where crime is done in broad daylight.
But I digress. This could be pork...or this could be in the public interest. It just depends if the money is actually going to areas where it is needed.
Riiight. Parks and bicycle paths have NOTHING to do with health. DAMN THAT OBAMA!
Everyone knows we just need more prescription drugs. Jeez.
The point is that the bill is being falsely advertised.
Should this not be in some form of Infrastructure improvement bill?
Its a common ploy that is overused i.e. Here is a bill to Help You and bundled in the bill is about a BILLION DOLLARS worth of funds that will more than likely be misappropriated.
I might be wrong but isn't there some form of service that is already in place that should be doing these street improvements/light bulb changing and so on already??

1CIf improving the lighting in a playground or clearing a walking path or a bike path or restoring a park are determined as needed by a community to create more opportunities for physical activity,
determined as needed by a community they cant fill the f'in potholes... and they want better lighting for the crack dealers... no he doesnt have a brain tumor... nope not him...
