okay, call me a politcally correct liberal, but seriously mookster you need to chill on these "Japs" headlines. im all for people going back and forth on this site, thats one of the main reasons i frequent it, but this sets a horrible precedent. im actually surprised this got through without being modded...c'mon guys...

Oh and I can say that as I am 1/2 Oriental.
I actually have never considered the word "Jap" to be offensive, but rather simply a shortened version of "Japanese". I am of Scottish heritage, and the reference to a "Scot" or "Scots" are commonplace, and not so much different. I don't use the word because it sounds too 1940's.....
Even if the word does offend some, seems to me there are FAR worse comments on a daily basis on MV.
But, like Dennis Miller says, that is just my opinion, I could be wrong....
There is a highschool here that has a "Scot" as a mascot. Its a short, wirey haired guy with a kilt and bag pipes....typical 1940's cartoon looking thing.....Something right out of a Warner Brothers Cartoon.
I'm of a Scottish heritage as well....however, I can't help but think of "grounds keeper willy" from the SImpson when I think of a "Scot"

i hear ya spud, but "scot" doesnt have the same historical context as "jap" does. similar to calling someone from pakistan a "paki" - i consider it an inherently racist term. listen, im all for a little "ethnic" humor, and im not advocating censoring all of madville, but i cant support slurs especially in the post headlines. just a little disapointing imho.

I actually have not heard "paki" as well, so I guess it boils down to where you grew up, and where you reside. To me, these terms seem pretty mild and unremarkable, whereas in other regions may be considered very offensive. "Micks" and "Guineas" are also not on my list, but I'm sure in certain parts of the world, they can get your ass kicked and good.....
