Impressionists paintings are my favorite. One day I noticed that impressionist paintings look like a reflection, off of the water, of the landscape surrounding the water. I told myself the next time I see an impressionist painting that depicted a body of of water I will notice if the reflections of the landscape in the water is more fuzzy that the landscape itself. Nope. The water reflection is a fuzzy as the landscape. I think impressionism sprung from painting the reflections in the water and then adding the same reflections to the real landscape surrounding the water. Being around water and looking at water is calming. Panting an entire picture of a scene as it would appear if reflected in the water is very calming.
