You gonna pay out of your own pocket for the ER bills of the uninsured after you repeal the law? If not, please consider shutting up.
In all the phony debate over health care reform, we heard more about stuff that critics pretended was in the reform, such as Death Panels, that we never got a really straightforward description of what the problem was that the reform was trying to fix.
Since nearly forever, hospitals have had to accept uninsured patients, because it would be next to murder to turn away a gunshot or car accident victim. Tax dollars pay for that cost either directly or indirectly. The purpose of the reform was to get more people covered in order to save money for the government.
You can criticism the Bill than came out of Congress all you want, but it does do this. It is projected to save a very significant amount of money, which will cut the deficit, over 10 years.
If you never heard this before it is because you heard all about Socialism and Marxism or some other BS, and in typical fashion, the Dems were not up to the task of explaining what they were doing in simple declarative sentences, and the health insurance lobby made sure you heard their point of view through their meat puppets in the Tea Party.
Saves money for the government, really, you could look it up.
already would have to anyhow, but why would I want to be forced to buy what I don't need right now.
Do you have insurance on your car? Is it required by law with penalties for not having it?
If so why, your car isn't wrecked right now is it?
That is a STATE requirement and if I did not have a car: I would not need insurance. Also if I had the right amount of money, I would not need insurance.
Since you didn't get my point, I will answer that you have insurance because there is a possibility, even a probability that you will need it. Same story with health insurance. There is a possibility something could happen to you which would require medical treatment. An unexpected illness, an injury, the possibilities are there. If you are unable to pay, taxpayers would foot the bill. That is the way it has worked for many years. The alternative would be to let you get worse by not treating you and that would not be moral or ethical.
Your situation is hypothetical but the costs associated with treating uninsured persons is not, it costs an enormous fortune in tax dollars every year.
If more people were insured, the government would save money.
Instead of hearing this message most Americans heard stuff like the nonsense spouted by this Tea Party candidate for elected office.
Stupid idiotic nonsense
Tax payers don't foot the bill unless I skip town, but I make a payment arrangement with the hospital. My friend had to do the same thing after a rouge chain saw almost took his thumb off...
You really don't understand this issue, do you?

Hopefully every state will follow and help dismantle this horrible overcomplex law that will not reduce medical costs as they claimed.
