Me thinks Mr. Day ran across a pushy census taker. I don't know about other neighborhoods and cities, but in my area, when a census taker knocks on your door if you tell them you aren't interested in participating in their headcount they leave. *shrugs*

Constantly consuming. Conquer and devour....

This may be off the subject, but I have gotten two mailings recently which look like they are census materials, but when you open them up and read them, they are from the Republican National Committee looking for campaign contributions. The letter inside is in the form of a questionnaire, supposedly about the "Obama agenda" but asks questions that I have never heard of as part of the actual Obama agenda.

Every ten years, there is a major scare campaign warning people to not cooperate with the Census, but I can never figure out why it would be to the advantage of a law abiding household to avoid saying how many people live there.

What is the big deal, anyway?

Reply to Gramps:

There is a difference between telling how may people reside at a dwelling and giving all kinds of unnecessary personal information.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

If you are progressive (Mr. Gramps pay attn for the answer to your questio in this article -- you are an important asset) to the cause, a minority, or most of all an FF ally, follow these rules (If you are conservative, answer all of the questions and use the back of the form you provide any further personal information which the census has not asked):

Declaration To Make To Census Takers "I hereby affirm that the provisions of Title 13 ''requiring'' me to disclose my race, personal financial data, birthdate, or any other personal, private information to the Bureau of the Census, an agency of the United States government; constitutes an unreasonable, unwarranted search of my person, house, papers, and/or effects; and a governmental invasion of the sanctity of my home and the privacies of life. As such, these provisions violate the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, and are thus wholly void and I am not bound to obey them. I have completed the only those sections of the Census form pertaining to the Constitutionally-mandated actual enumeration, as follows: 1. The actual number of people living at the address printed on the form, excluding untaxed Native Americans; 2. Age of each person in accordance with US Const. Amendment XIV, Section 2. 3. Sex of each person, in accordance with US Const. Amendment XIV, Section 2. I have thus fulfilled my obligation to the attainment of the actual enumeration of the populace of the United States. Any fine or other sanction that is levied by any office or organization stemming from the unconstitutional provisions of Title 13 in connection with my response to this or any other Census-related questioning will be challenged in a court of law."

A state is better governed which has but few laws, and those laws strictly observed. Some really wacky neocon named R. Decartes

I received my census form. It asks

1. How many people are live here

2. What are their names

3. How old are they/birthdates

4. Do they live part time anywhere else?

5. Are you Latino?

6. If not, what race are you?

Thank you, we're done....

Where's the problem with that?

Yeah, I just don't get the outrage over the Census.

Steamed is all worked up about the FF involvement of something that George Washington started, and which has happened every 10 years ever since his time.

Frankly I am a lot more pissed off at the time change last weekend. I HATE the time change!

I got my census forms today. It took me a full 5 minutes to fill out, only because I read everything very carefully, looking for those trick or intrusive questions. It took me extra time (within the 5 minutes) to determine that there was nothing at all like that on the form. It asked me

My name

My age

If I was Hispanic or not

My racial ethnicity (white or whatever)

If I have another place where I sometimes stay (but I didn't have to specify what or where it is, but examples include a second home, prison, nursing home, college housing, the guest house at OJ's Brentwood estate, and so on.)

THAT WAS IT!

Someone who understands this paranoid hullabaloo over the Census, please explain it to me. I am being serious here. What is the down side of answering these questions?
