Not exactly. Poverty and unemployment bring about crime, not the presence or abscence of guns. The Swiss have effectively eliminated both. There are plenty of guns around here and plenty of crime to go along.
Unemployment shot up to 3.6% this past summer in Switzerland
Per capita the US has almost twcie the # of guns I think the number is lightly skewed as there are probably more households in the US that have many guns as opposed to more households having fewer guns In this study it showed that a large percentage had more than 6 guns per household in the US Take that into account and perhaps there are not as many guns per household in the US as there is in Switzerkand .. just bigger gun fanatics
What is odd is the number of homicides per country ... The US has a pretty high rate compared to Switzerland .. and other countries if you look at S America .,.. their numbers are incredibly bad.
Is the US society more violent ... or is there more crime because people are unemployed and poor ... or is it because of cultural differences .... I think a large portion is that people in the US use guns more for crimes .. as they are involved with drugs and robbing people for drugs and other illegal activities ..the end justifies the means in too many cases. Do people in the US value life less than other countries (excluding S America) If we had more employed people perhaps so many would not be on drugs in a hopeless situation and on welfare. Something or society does not do a very good job with. We have more people locked up than any other country in jails and prisons ..another sad testament to our society .. I'm sure many in this forum would blame the evil republicans ... as they are the root of all evil ... I think that the folks in DC should share most of the blame - whether it is on the left or right side of the aisle, as they are the ones that make the laws and make policies.
The hypothesis in the article title is flawed, but it is an interesting counterpoint to the assertion that more guns == more crime
The attitude and respect behind the gun is what makes the difference.
I think the mandatory military service also has something to do with the attitude toward guns and their use over there!
While I agree that mandatory military service would be extremely helpful for most citizens of America to go through, it too is really against the principles of the Constitution of the United States. The man on the video is slightly wrong; maintaining freedom requires access to and the use of weapons, including guns, while true freedom is the ability to choose not to partake in military service or ever use a weapon. I fully support the rights of all people to arm themselves for defense in any way they so choose, while I also fully support those who never want to use violence in any way, even to defend themselves.
Low crime and murder rates are a cultural phenomenon and has little, if any, correlation to gun ownership. BTW, Switzerland does not have the lowest crime rate or lowest murder rate. Japan has a lower murder rate, and they do not have access to guns.

Very, very true..America should learn from this.
