defaults write com.apple.screencapture type JPG

Changes the default OS X screen-capture format from PNG to JPG (you can also use GIF or PDF, if you prefer one of those formats).

My god, I been looking all over for that tip.

We're working hard to implement your feedback ideas.

Wow, OSX is designed to make it faster to get things done? No. Use the mouse, and I guarantee that comparable actions take more mousing and clicking. Being forced to learn every hotkey to do anything quickly doesn't sound like engineering for the average naive user to me.

Of course, its so easy and sensible for the average naive user, you need explain the keyboard, common shortcuts that aren't explained anywhere, and cryptic terminal commands to make it do stuff in the next three entries.

The notion that finder differs significantly in functionality form explorer is just stupid. The functionality is almost the same. Except I don't have to know some undocumented hotkey to find out a files info. I jsut use the right mouse button to see what I can do with the damn file. Of course, finder is so awesome, they tell you to spend $40 to get something easier to use several tips later.

And of course, having to use the terminal to flush your browsing history instaead of just doing it form inside the browser, that's user friendly too.

Then of course you ahve to ask why, if this is a list of things MAC users should know, how come every other tip is about the iphone?

Because you can't do color management on any other platform? I don't think so.

Not without spending thousands on a third party solution that works with a very limited range of hardware and almost no software and even when it does work is very temperamental. Colorsync works with pretty much everything and works well.

Gee, really? Because I use color management on the PC to get printouts that are color accurate using about $70 worth of hardware. It works with pretty much any software that is color profile aware, which is less common than on OS X, but applies to pretty much all the apps it actually matters.

I think you might be a WEE bit out of date with the PC world with regards to things like this.
