Regardless of what this individual has done in the past, this is just wrong. We have laws, police, judges, and juries for a reason, and this act is utterly barbaric. This particular individual has done his time, and for all way know, may legitimately be trying to turn his life around. Are we a society, or are we just animals?

Based on some of the comments I read on this site, I would tend to lean towards the latter, rather than the former.
