Oct 21, 11 12:39 pm — I wonder if anyone here on MV is knowledgeable about Google Plus for business applications.
I have been asked, but not by the company I work for, to figure out if this is a better platform for business than some of those other social networks.
I think the basic premise is that you can post a special deal, or price, or promotion on Google Plus, then take it down later so that people who look at your site later on don't see the deal that they can't get after the special price expires.
I am not looking for how to code stuff or anything from a programming or IT point of view, that information would be way over my head.
I am looking for big picture strategy, how to use it, how to find clients or potential client and the best ways to provide them with limited time promotions or sales events, that sort of thing.
Anyone here have any experience in that regard? As always when I ask a technical question on MV, I appreciate any input that addresses the topic.

I know from experience that the buy in for doing promotions on face book is high. For example, one company my wife works with for marketing type stuff wanted to do a name our mascot contest. Do do it, you had to have special permission form facebook which was nearly impossible to attain. However, several companies have gotten it specifically to do business as a provider of that service. Cost of entry there was $5000.
For $5000, they got a whopping 300 responses to the campaign.
Now I ask you this, is facebook REALLY worth a CPM of $16,666.66?
On top of that, he paid to brand every page of his website with the little facebook logos. How much would you have charged someone for ad space on every one of your site's web pages? How much did you pay the web monkey to give that away to facebook.
On top of that, for it to be a permissable contest, it has to take place all on facebook. So unless the participants cared what they might win, only the winner must eventually go to his company's website to chose stuff form their product line for their prize.
Google in general has been competing on a lower barrier to entry for commercialization of it's services, but last I heard they were shutting down profiles of business accounts that were invited by them. But that was the middle of the summer. Good luck trying to find coherent info on what you can or cannot do. That is something google really sucks at.
It's a shitty means of advertising IMO.
Another case in point. I saw a honda TV ad. It mentioned honda 4 times, and facebook about 16. The facebook logo spent more time on screen than the honda logo. It's placement wasn't for a particular ad slot on a particular show, but it was still probably $10k every time it came on, which it did about 8 times in one hour. Honda spent at LEAST $80k to spend most of 4 minutes telling me to go make a facebook account while an accord drove around in the background.
Why is driving people to facebook where they can potentially see someone else's advertising a good way for you to advertise your product? Facebooks' click through rate SUCKS, and that's just comparing ad venue to ad venue. Add in the overhead of getting your business on facebook and compare ad dollar to ad dollar click through and it REALLY, REALLY sucks.
For something like coupon codes, tiwtter kicks facebooks ass. 1) cost of entry is cheaper. 2) means of consuming the ad are more varies as there are a bajillion tiwtter feed managers, and sites specifically geared towards aggregating tweeted coupon codes. On top of that, retweeting is pretty simple and with a coupon code gets the message out. If someone uses it htey are driven TO your site. 3) twitter click through rates are 19% vs about 3% ( I rounded twitter down, and facebook up).
