Mar 01, 11 03:23 pm — Yesterday I handed my dog Zeke over to God. He was 11 years old and had recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. He fought it with chemo for several months, but stopped responding to treatment and was beginning to suffer. My family vet met me at my parent's home and he went peacefully. I buried him myself along a trail we used to walk every weekend. He was my first child and the best friend I have ever had. I will miss him dearly.

Me and my big ol' dog feel for you and your loss. My dog is also my first child and best friend, and he is suffering a bit now that I, like you, have a new daughter in the house and he doesn't get the same attention.

Here is my advice to you, take your daughter to the Animal Shelter and rescue her a new best friend.

Religion is like a penis. It is fine to have one. It is fine to be proud of it. But please don't whip it out in public and start showing everyone. And please don't shove it down our childrens throat.

Sorry to hear about your loss Z.

I have been in the same situation and if you have ever watched the movie "Marley and Me" then you have seen my life story with some of the details changed. For example the breed of dog was different in the movie, although not the behavior, and in real life I am not married to Jennifer Anniston, although a lot of the story line is pretty close including which States I lived in, the job changes, and so on.

But enough about me. If you haven't seen that movie, it is probably the best dog centered movie of all time. You will seriously laugh out loud, and cry (especially now in your doggie mourning state of mind)

Anyway, the dog is the best friend that the main human character in the movie ever had, just as you described it above. By the way, Owen Wilson plays me in the movie and is pretty dead on.

But seriously, I don't know who wrote the book that the movie was based on, but there are a lot of parallels to my life in that movie and perhaps to yours as well.

EDIT: Your comment about handing your dog over to God just reminded me of another movie, this one with Robin Williams, who dies in the movie and ends up in some surreal afterlife. An incident which starts out very scary, turns into a scene where Robin meets his also-deceased pooch which makes him comment to himself that he really screwed up this time because he obviously ended up in Doggie Heaven. Not a great movie, but a great scene!

I am so sorry for your loss, my friend. Zeke was as fortunate to have you as you were to have him.

I'm sorry for your loss, Zeke. It's a hard thing to lose a pup. Hope you are feeling better soon.
