Nov 05, 09 11:10 pm — Search my comments for my little run down of how government work goes for us in the manufacturing industry. I believe its under the Al Gore Carbon Billionaire link.

I just now got a phone call from Buyer X stating he'd like to know if I'd be interested in building an XYZ Assembly, and if it sounded like something I could build. XYZ Assembly is the only information I got as far as a description goes. The sign on my building doesn't say "XYZ ASSEMBLIES R US" so I have no idea what the hell an XYZ Assembly even is.

Not what its made out of, how big it is, whether its a lathe part, a welding part, a sheet metal part etc. Nothing. This thing could be 35 tons and 80 feet long. It could be mere ounces. It could be mild steel, or it could be beryllium.

So, I tell the guy "send me a drawing and I can bid it."
He just sent me 35 pages of government regulations on how I'm supposed to bid this contract, mark the part, procedures on racism, and sexism, and general discrimination in my work place because if I accept the contract I am essentially a government entity for the duration of the job(which does have its perks), paying my subcontractors, and on and on.

No fucking blue print.

Apparently I have to request the print from a 3rd party.

Didn't he just ask me on the phone if I wanted to quote a job? Tell me, how in Christs name am I supposed to bid on a job that I can't see?

I'll update on when I actually get my CD full of prints. I bet its on the magnitude of weeks.

Oh and I have less than 4 weeks to submit my bid.

God bless the US Govt.

You can ask any Democrat .. they will tell you that the govt can do things better .. just ask them.

And when they decide on the contract .. it won't be the most realistic and best bid, it will be based upon the cheapest or the one with the most minorities on the project or in some one's favorite congressional district .

True capitalism has not failed us .. just too much govt regulation.

You aren't far off the mark there. We are still a 'woman owned' business. That, and the fact we have less than 50 employees, it makes us a 'small woman owned' business, which gives us the democrats most favorite word: Entitlement.

I finally got some drawings. Its for some AIM-9 parts. Looks to be a decent job if I can get through the quoting process without throwing myself in front of a dump truck.

In that case, I'd bid even lower if they let me see some shit blow up.

If you're not outraged, you're simply not paying attention.
