I guess the new owners (who appear to be expats living in Dubai) decided that it would be easier to monetize this site if it had a web2.0/digg.com feel. So here we are. Personally, I don't think it looks any worse than it did back in 2000/2001. But I do think that the priorities of the successive owners have killed what nascent community this place had years ago. Successful sites like reddit, metafilter, digg, etc all fostered a community and then monetized. This site (starting with the first owner) tried to monetize and then build a community on top of it-- a proven failed strategy. But I digress. I think it looks alright.

I'll second that and add ... Sort of like having a landlord that just wants the income and doesn't really care about the little things that make a house a home.
