Jul 15, 09 07:11 pm — What a piece of crap choice...I'm thinking America would be way more behind Judge Marilyn Milian or Greg Mathis.

Better what you know, to what you dont.

Judge Sonia Sotomayor Denied My Appeal and I Spent 16 Years in Prison For a Crime I Didn't Commit

It is deeply dismaying that neither the Republicans nor the Democrats have introduced my case to the national conversation about Judge Sotomayor. Do people remember Anita Hill? As serious as her allegations of sexual harassment were, I would think that my serving time in prison wrongfully and being condemned to a life sentence for a crime that I was innocent of would be even more serious. Why does Judge Sotomayor continue to ignore this story? Does President Obama agree with Judge Sotomayor 19s ruling? Does he think that ruling served justice? Is that the type of 1Cempathy 1D he wanted? I lost 16 years of my life. It seems evident that politics is trumping justice; that I am once again being wronged by the system

It seems like she's disavowed her entire 17 year judicial carreer: "I didn't mean that" "That was wrong" "Those were an unfortunate choice of words"

She'll say anything they need to hear to get confirmed then it's back to business as usual: judging from the "I'm a disadvantaged minority and will do whatever it takes to right past wrongs and objective [white man] law be damned" perspective.

The "wise latina" will get confirmed. After all, she's a latina with an affirmative-action education: what more qualification do you need?

It's a shame most Americans will just roll their eyes and go about their lives not really understanding or caring about the potential effects of judicial activists like Sotomayor.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Compared to some of the nominees in the last while (and possibly some current justices), Sotomayor is ridiculously qualified and nit-picky a-holes (ie Hatch and Sessions) deserve no more of my energy than an eye roll.

Unfortunately, she is not "ridiculously" qualified. She is a product of affirmative action. I have done quite a bit of research on her (including reading many of her horrible opinions)and I can tell you there are better(even if they are liberal) candidates out there with far less activism in their blood. I don't think it is nit-picky to revel someones true colors. I have watched some of the hearings and in my opinion she has certainly not been completely honest in answering for her past. Oh well. She is in no matter what I think.

Personality-wise for sure. Judge Judy is bad-ass.

I never heard of this lady until Obama nominated her for The Supremes. Then there was an avalanche of material about her, almost all of it negative. It ran along the lines that she is a judicial activist, that her major concern is racial, ethnic, and gender issues rather that following the law, and that she is so totally wrongheaded that she has been soundly reversed on some cases.

It was a bit overwhelming.

It is now clear that this media campaign against her is, to use the phrase first used and correctly so I might add by Clarence Thomas, "A high tech lynching."

This woman is a highly qualified judge, if you go by the ratings and rankings given by her peers. The couple of odd quotes and the couple of weird cases that have been used against her so aggressively do exist, but in all the time she has been a judge, it is remarkable that there are so few. George W Bush, or Joe Biden, take your pick, can say something more stupid than anything she ever came up with on a slow weekend. They had to cherry pick through DECADES of boringly normal, following only the law as written stuff, to come up with the examples that have been misrepresented as being representative of her as a judge.

What is remarkable about this woman is how unremarkable she is. She is about as safe from criticism as a human being can be that has a long public track record. She gets high ratings for following the law, not for the slightest hint of activism. In fact, the case that is used as "proof" of her activism actually demonstrates the reverse. In reversing her decision, the Supreme Court rewrote the law, legislating from the bench. Sonia was reversed because she followed the law in place at the time, which the Supremes overturned with what you would call judicial activism, except that politically it went in the opposite direction. Oddly enough, no conservatives are outraged at that particular activism, because they agree with the outcome.

I wonder if any MVers who posted articles or who made comments about what a wild-eyed radical she is have come to realize that they were fooled by a slick, but 100% dishonest campaign.
