Apr 02, 09 02:53 pm — what's up MV? i have been swamped with work here in the past month or so since i arrived - but i do check in every so often. i just wanted to say hey to you all!
i'll give you a brief rundown of what's going down.
-qantas and AA lost my luggage (i got it as i was boarding the c-17 in christchurch)
-my flights were all jacked up getting here and lucky me got to fly this route: Hartford-Chicago-LAX-Sydney-Auckland-Christchurch
-on qantas (a somewhat longass flight) my in-seat TV was broken as was the reading light above my head.
-lost a day in christchurch because of flight delays.
-arrived in antarctica with all my luggage.
-started work directly the next day.
-because the volunteer point of contact for the greenhouse and am now in charge of growing salad for 153 people. (as a volunteer)
-work 54 hours a week in the galley - up to 20 hours a week in the greenhouse extra (been cutting that back).
-went to robert f. scott's discovery hut (photos on my blog)
-saw penguins (adelies)
-work work work.
-won bingo
-had a nutella cake for my birthday
-amazing sunsets and sunrises
-gym 5 days a week
-personal trainer meeting once a week
-learning guitar
-making cards
-writing
-making collages
soooooooooooo that's the general gist of what's been going on =)
miss you tooooooo! now that my computer works again (i lost a hard drive and have been reinstalling everything and recovering photos off my memory cards...) i should be around more ;)
Damn, that was a long-ass way to go to get to a place which in theory you should be able to get to from anywhere just by going south.
I feel your pain concerning the lost and broken stuff with the airlines. I was crying the blues over my recent flights from Florida to California, which are nothin' compared to what you went through.
Good luck, and just in case they forgot to tell you, it is gonna be winter down there pretty soon. Bundle up!

it IS winter now ;) as soon as that last flight leaves we are totally in winter mode.

after i got to christchurch i had another 5 and a half hours of flying to antarctica ;)
i get tons of frequent flyer miles though - so that's awesome!

I like how there are chairs on the porch as if you could actually sit out there and enjoy yourself.
