The accent marks, plus signs, etc. should all be working. We haven't been able to pin point the issue with that but we're trying to get that figured out.
Year old links will not ever become popular as the limit is 48 hours during the week and 4-5 days during the weekend.
shrugs - they're still removed from all of my posts.
If it's just me I'll let it go but is there some benefit to how links appear? Rather than having one filtered page with links? That's my biggest issues with the site, one that the 'ignore users' feature would greatly help with mind you.

I'd also like to add how incredibly frustrating it is every time I have to go back and edit a comment because we're not able to use ANY accents or characters!

I have adjusted to the new site, but I do miss the ease of the old version. And I miss petemoss.
i miss litty.
Hi Zem,
The popular links tab are supposed to be the highest quality links as decided by the community. The recent links are just all of the links that have been submitted to the site in order of date submitted. It's a raw, unfiltered version of everything that's been submitted.
Various factors determine if a link will go popular but as far as the date submitted itself is concerned, during the week only links that are 48 hours or newer will be eligible. During the weekend, it's 4-5 days because user activity is lower during the weekends. As the site grows and more users become activity (voting, commenting, clicking, reporting, etc.), the popular links will become more and more refined.
As for comment timestamps, they are there. Just above the comment itself is the date it was posted (e.g., 5 hours ago). Can you show me a link without comment timestamps? If there is one without, it's a bug.
We'll add an unsend for messages and a way to remove favorites. I agree that both of these should be added and they've been on our short list to do for the site. We've been quiet as we work behind the scenes on changes that'll allow you to customize the front page to give you a higher degree of personalization to help solve some of the issues you're having. Links will always appear to take up a bit more room especially for you because you're a moderator and see options that regular users don't have access to.
You can see "Your Friends Online" but it's on the "Who's Online" page under Followed Users. The difference is that's on its own separate page and not off to the side. We may have that as an option for the front page customizations to give you the ability to place it there if you want. We realize that even after a couple months, the site is still a bit of a change from the old version and we will continue making tweaks and rolling out new features to help improve this adjustment period, however long it may last.
Thanks for the comments. We can always count on you to let us know the thoughts of the community.
Ben
whos online... times I look and see 32 online but on the who's page i see 6... how about adding 6 invisible admin and 15 guests to round it out?
you can only see registered users...
echo, echo, echo
Thanks for taking the time to respond, I will clarify.

The recent tabs don't get voted on often enough for them to become popular when they are submitted. Which means they are in the recent links tab queue for a while, while even older unvoted recent links finally do make it to the popular tab due to the amount of time they have been in recent links. Hence old links in the popular tab. Which to be honest, I wouldn't mind so much if many of them weren't old news links.
By the time they make it to the popular tab they are usually a few days old.
*And having to click through 4-5 pages of links in popular links and then again in recent links just to browse one day's worth of links is a bit much. Especially when most of them are as mentioned above. One page of link submissions to go through would be preferable.

Whatever those factors are, they aren't working.

Madville would probably be better off without a timestamp at all when it comes to the one now in place. It is beyond vague.

Good.
Links will always appear to take up a bit more room especially for you because you're a moderator and see options that regular users don't have access to.
The moderator options take up no room whatsoever. They are not the issue. **The problem is that each individual link seems like it has been made as big as possible. It's like reading a book in LARGE print. Or reading something online that is all in caps.
You can see "Your Friends Online" but it's on the "Who's Online" page under Followed Users. The difference is that's on its own separate page and not off to the side.
Friends online or as you prefer 'followed users' used to appear under your MV sign in. It was a far easier way to know which friends were online than clicking the 'who's online' tab.
You are welcome for the input.
I would rather vocalize them so that you understand *my* issues with the site, instead of becoming so discouraged that I stop participating.
Starred replies are my biggest issues at the moment.
but top of page says @@@ User's on our site come and go throughout the day. Below is an updated list of who is currently browsing the site. @@@
thats what confused me
Damn Zem! Did someone play a foul April Fools Day Joke on you? Where's the good faith
Anyway, we just pushed live a feature that you guys can beta test. We are not done with it, but it seems many of you are too annoyed with the current front page. I'm curious to hear your feedback on this feature, but once again, it is no where near completed but hopefully has enough completed to hold you over until we can finish things up....
If you go to your Settings page and click Link Settings, you will see a new option called HOMEPAGE STYLE. Select summary mode and then go back to the frontpage. You may also want to enable ACTIVITY AUTO UPDATE which when on the frontpage, will auto update the news feed on the right side as events happen on MV.
We'll hopefully be able to get more of this completed. On the plate is:
- Box showing latest replies to your comments by other users.
- Recent threads you participated in so you can 'Watch Them'.
- Box with your recent Favorite Links
- Box with recent links people that you follow liked / commented / favorited.
- And a few others.
All these boxes will be customizable whether to show or hide -- but are not right now since you rushed to go live before they can be completed and tested :)
In regard to the timestamp, I'm not sure I understand what you are confused with. Drop me a PM and we'll see what we can do with that. If I'm reading it right, you are referring to timestamps on the homepage. If so, you are hiding descriptions which is on the same line as the timestamp, so that gets hidden too.
Nopes, no pranks were pulled on me today. But thanks for asking. :)
You may be misconstruing this blog, it is not an attack, nor me rushing you into releasing new options.
I aired my concerns as a long time, dedicated, Madvillian.
The fact that I posted a blog about the issues is a sign that I have faith in you and in Ben.
The issues I posted are valid.
I haven't set any of the extra features that were already available, just in case a user needed help trouble shooting a problem.
I'll check out the newest features.
The time stamp problem is it's vagueness. Why bother having something that says 'posted 2 hours ago' instead of the actual time it was posted, say... 'posted 7:40 PM'.
And... the edit comment feature having a time limit is... irksome.
You really are quite dedicated. I know I couldn't have stayed (and didn't) through the last however many years.
Even if I slowly become less active again, I will still log in every so often to make sure you're behaving.

I voiced mush of that previously. I also haven't seen Ben or Peter around so assumed they have set up shop and left.
I personally can't stand the new set up and am only still here because of select users I enjoy interacting with, helps my day pass but a lot of these users have already jumped ship -- can't imagine it will be long before the 'Recent' tab is overrun by spluggers and the 'Popular' engulfed with steamed submission (won't be long before he realizes clicking on year old links will make them popular).
I'm here with the peeps. Minus the peeps MV is no longer here. It'll be the site that disappears before us.
My two cents.
