Mar 25, 08 09:25 pm — What Would Stone Cold Steve Austin Do?

Well, not actually. What would you do?

Today I had a moment where I chose to do nothing rather than do something good that would lead to something bad that I wouldn't want to happen.
I was leaving a customers facillity today where they burn garbage which is a fairly large facility at 400 tons of refuse burned per day.

At the edge of the compound was this scraggly dog, just standing in the road and I could see that his left front leg was damaged but he was standing on it. I couldn't tell what was wrong with him other than that.

Now here is the hard part. I just kept driving. From past experiences with the local animal control, if you call them they come, take the dog, put it at the pound then its euthanized in 7 days if no one claims it. You CANNOT claim it if it isn't yours and the only way to rescue a dog is if its less than 3 years old. This dog was older than 3, and they euthanize if they are older than 3.
If I would have taken it to a vet, they would have called Animal Control since its not my dog.

So basically since the dog was beat up, but able to walk I let him be. Maybe he'd find his way back home rather than attempt a 'rescue' which would ultimately end up with him being euthanized rather than helped at a no kill shelter, which they have none of here. He didn't look like he needed much help, but in the city I live in you are allowed a maximum of 2 pets, and I currently have 2.

Either way it would have put me at risk of a severe fine, which I would have to get rid of the dog, or a huge vet bill which I have no money, or the poor thing would have been put down rather than get $500 worth of treatment and placed in a nice home.

I kinda feel like shit right now.

I don't see where you had much choice, unless one of your current pets is a gold fish.

In that case, flush Goldie and make room for Limpy.

Ya made a snap decision based on current knowledge and gut reaction. Stick to your decision and keep the hope that someone else is able to help.

You should just carry a gun, you can remedy the situation by just putting Fido out of his misery on the spot. Besides, how many fricking animals are people expected to care for?

The most important right a nation can afford it's people is the right to be left alone.

I actually wondered how long he was going to survive with loaded garbage trucks flying in and out of this place.

Sadly, if I would have discharged my sidearm, I would have garnered the attention of the Sentry guarding an Air Force Base installation entry point. Not such a great idea being its 100 yds from the runway either.

Shitty situation to find yourself in. I'd probably have taken it to the pound to be euthanized if it looked in pain. Better to put it out of its misery.

Works for a living....sigh

I actually tinkered with this very notion. But I was afraid that once I picked the poor little thing up, if he wasn't all that hurt other than his front leg, I'd be in one of my aforementioned scenarios.

BAH! God damn people. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners.
