Sep 05, 07 09:19 pm — I happened to be in the right place at the right time today to witness quite possibly the cutest little girl ever. I really don't think retelling the story will have the same amount of sugar and sweetness this little girl was portraying. this may end up a shitty post, because it might have been one of those "you had to be there moments".

I was at a book store this evening with my girlfriend, where we frequently lose ourselves. It was a night like any other night, there was books, lots of them, but it was a rough crowd tonight. Some jerk was walking around with his cell phone on maximum volume, and not answering it, no matter how many times it rang. There was snooty hipsters everywhere. "Lord of the Flies" had spilled out of the book and was playing out in front of me. Children were crawling in and out from under tables like Charlie in the brush during Vietnam. Scampering between the legs of all the other customers making noise, and generally proving with their rowdy behavior that the current lack of parental supervision was going to be a ongoing problem in their development.

I worked the isles like a snake weaving between sugar fueled enemy combatants. almost becoming a p.o.w. in the reference section. ....and the history section.....i just don't want to remember the history section...i lost too many friends there.

I finally arrived in the fiction section looking for the "Night Watch" trilogy. I was combing the shelves when an older business, looking man approached the section on my side. With him he had a little girl who had to be under 8. She had a very well behaved, and almost intelligent demeanor. This is the exchange that took place between them:

Little Girl: Daddy what are you doing?
Dad: i'm looking for a book.
LG: Oh no
D: what?
LG: I want you to spend time with me.
D: we will i just want to find a book, first.
LG: Well you better not get any Dugeons and Dragons books.
D: *chuckles*
LG: Dad, you better not get them.
D: well i just want to look at them.
LG: You better not get one or else.
D: or else what sweety?
LG: Well.....Well.....Well then I'll just have to make fun of you and your dungeons and dragons

*at this point i could no longer contain my chuckling, and the father burst out laughing as well. She said it in the sweetest little, matter of fact, cause and effect, tone. Like a mother kindly warning a child if he takes another cookie he'll have to be punished.

The father put the book back on the shelf and said to her "if you only knew ho many people make fun of dungeons and dragons". and they walked away smiling.

Nothing like a daughter to melt a Dad's heart.

It is my daughter's birthday this week, and although she isn't a tyke anymore, she once was just like the kid in your story, and I thank you for it.

I like that - it's a much better reason than "because I said so" or "I don't wanna."

I'd hate to disappoint, but finding a metrosexual in a ozzfest t shirt is like finding a straight guy behind the counter at a starbucks

Very cute story! I saw a little drama queen at a local time-elapse water garden near my home, and she kept getting sprayed in the face. Every time it would happen she'd sink to the ground, throw her arms over her head and moan loudly "WHY?!?! OH WHY ME?" Me and the hubby were in stitches over her. Other people's kids are GREAT entertainment.

i don't want them to grow up. i just want them to go from being cute little toddlers to being 25 and married to billionaires, skipping all the bs in between.

I dunno, it's great when they turn 16 and can be your designated river. Even better now that she's 23 and is a beer drinking buddy of mine.
