Nov 08, 06 04:06 pm — I'm not going to bitch or gloat over who controls what house of congress. At the moment, we are closer to gridlock than before, which is a good thing at the moment.

However, by the time I got to lunch today I was majorly pissed. Not because of who won or lost, and not because this was probably the worst mudslinging coast to coast in an election I have ever witnessed, but because already complacency is setting in. All the tales of illegal practices are being shrugged off as just last minute mudslinging rather than sometthing to actually be concerned over.

Maybe I'm just taking it too personally, but the ammount of this in my back yard, and the fact that it isn't getting any attention, makes me straight out angry.

robo-calling. We got every kind.

We had democrat shill celebrities calling up telling us the story of how they had switched sides magically. 18 times a day.. yeah right. The lack of proper disclosure on the message wasn't suspicious either. I got a ton of these.

Nagging and/or threatening out-of-state campaingers. Got these too. Also democrats.

We had push polling. Both sides have been engaged in that here.

We had election machine rigging and "inappropriateness". Our machines are supposed to default to the active zone being a non-ballot vote (basically underlaying the left margin and not lining up with anything). This year, a lot of polling places had the default vote set up as democrat (mine was like that). Some of them, according to current rreports, didn't allow you to switch your vote off of Bob menedez. regardless of what you pushed. Not to mention that the reuslts are protected by a crap ass common passwors sytem. So one corrupt individual has the ability to screw any district. YAY.

Then we have the cops supressing legal campaigning. It's one thing to be doing a he-said /she-said over what is 300ft vs. 302ft, but this was not even debatably close to a polling place. Once again democrat.

We have 1.2 million voters on the roles who are inelligable that have not been removed since 2004. That's enough potential BS votes to cover 90% of even the biggest vote recipient in the state. Couple that with record voter turnout of over 50%, which the state has NEVER seen. We had a record low (for a presidential election) for 2004, and a lot more pissed off sounding people, yet somehow we are rolling out record voters for a mid-term election. Smells completley honest there. We have tons of corpses voting, and thousands of people double and tripple dipping their voter registration.

All this and it's looking like nobody is going to make any of this an issue. It jsut makes me plain old angry.

i think we have reached the point where it isn't a quesiton of campaigning, but if your cheaters are more determined and less cruulous than the other guys.

Was it any better or worse in your state?

Personally, i have to ask at least one national question. The Democrats borrowed tens of millions of dollars to fund their campaigns. They spent at least 6 million of it in my state according to reports. How the hell is that legal? I mean how the helldoes a lending institution give you a big pot of money for a campaign that nobody else can? For the most part, someone requiring you to pay back their campaign contributions is illegal, so hows that work? On top of that, just where is that money going to come from to pay it back.

I still have to go with the great line form brewster's millions

"Why would you spend $10 million dollars to get a $60,000 a year job if you weren't planning on stealing it back with interest?"

Pray for gridlock, i don't think we can survive anymore "good ideas."

How about when ads are not endorsed nor paid for by the candidate but by the political party. Isn't that a bullshit way to get around spending.

Unless and until ALL political funds go into one bucket that is distributed evenly amongst all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, we are stuck with the Democraps and Repugnicans. And since they control everything, that ain't gonna happen.

How about in 2008 when a 3rd party candidate can't get airtime or not invited to participate in debates and, as usual, looses by a landslide, and then he sues both parties and the US government and calls for a breakdown of the 2-party monopoly?

What youa re tlaking about is soft money. It is regulated, under mccain-feingold, which in itself was a travesty. Actual advertising pretty much obeys the law though.

Where it didn't was robo-calling.

On top of that you had lots of last minute news generated on both sides.. mostly from the dems, but i cut both ways. News is exempt, even if it later turns out ot have been erronious.

I'm not even asking for new laws, but to enforce the ones we have to some extent.

.... one good thing with the dems winning so many contests .. they are'nt calling the repubs cheaters and stealing the elections ..... like thye did the last couple of elections. There are many lawyers out there who aren't going to make as much money because there won't be so many lawsuits.

Pelosi has drawn in her claws for a few days ... she will sharpen them up by next week I think, that lady scares me as much as Newt Gingrinch did .. and still does.

In Cali, the advertisements were not too terrilbe. There were a ton of money being spend on propostions though .. and not too many of them passed. It was hard to tell what was real or not about the propostions as the advertising was slanting the truth about them all over the place.

My favorite commercial was a the governors race. Phil Angelides was running against the gubernator andh the little meeek guy comes out standing with all these little cardboard figures of Arnold ... and he was bigger than Arnold and it made him seem like he was all that much a 'BIGGER' erpsonality than the gubernator when he was really this boring, meek, little schister real estate tycoon.
