Aug 23, 06 10:57 pm — So, I get home from an afterwork meeting with some friends, and sit down to check my email and I start hearing helicopters and the weirdest siren I've heard in a while.
Well, apparantly law enforcement helicopters have sirens.. who knew.
They were chasing down a guy in a green minivan who was tearing through my complex. I really gotta wonder what the heck he did to attract the attention of 6 police helicopters and one small odd black helicopter with white lettering that was REALLY quiet. Like oscilating fan in your bedroom on high quiet.
After about 35 minutes, they seem ot have moved off after all the cops on foot arrived and managed to lose track of the guy.
Gotta say this is the most attention I have seen anything get from police helicopters around here ever, and that includes multiple helicopter crashes, a major gas pipeline exploding, a couple really big fires, and several presidential visits.
He must have done something pretty noteworthy. Hope it doesn't involve running around my complex spreading biological weapons.
yeah, I live pretty close to the EWR landing pattern, and they were diverting air traffic until about 10 minutes after they moved on.
Not to mention they were swapping out the task of flying about 150ft over my complex in circles while chasing a green minivan around the parking area at a decent clip.
There were two helicopters that came along from the other side of the river later that might have been news helicopters. But they followed the river until they were out of the landing lanes, so I couldn't get a good look.
